Aura Systems, Inc. announced yesterday that Dr. Michael McElfresh joined the Company’s technical and management team. With a Ph.D in Solid State Physics from the University of California-San Diego, Dr. McElfresh has over 20 years of experience in academia and with high tech companies. Prior to joining Aura, he served as a Staff Consultant at the Argonne National Laboratory, Director of Product line Management at OptiSolar, and held numerous positions at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Additionally, he was a tenured professor of Physics at Purdue University.

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc. announced that Dr. Malcolm Fraser, Dr. Wang, Dr. Sohn and other members of the scientific team are preparing for the genetic insertion of recently created DNA constructs. The genetic constructs are customized packets of DNA that provide genetic instructions for the creation of new polymers and spider silk-based proteins. These unique genetic insertion packets include several that are specifically designed for the production of new fusion silk proteins.

CEO Kim K. Thompson stated, “These constructs include a number of new DNA combinations that are truly exciting. The increases in laboratory productivity over the last eight months are now enabling us to do more and to do it faster. This number of unique genetic constructs is a new breakthrough for the Company. Each of these constructs has the potential to result in the development of a new polymer or high performance fiber.”

Earlier this month, Kraig Biocraft Laboratories announced that its scientific team, including Dr. Malcolm Fraser, Dr. Wang, Dr. Sohn, and other members, have found a process capable of doubling the number of gene transfers performed, greatly increasing productivity of the spider silk and high performance polymer development program.

Kraig Biocraft is focused on developing and commercializing high performance polymers using spider silk gene sequences. The company intends to participate in the $92 billion market for high performance and technical fibers.
