Northwest Biotherapeutics Inc. (NWBO.OB) Helps Cancer Patients with DCVaxA-Brain

QualityStocks (October 21st, 2009) Writes:

Cancer is a deadly killer that has been affecting families globally for far too long. Despite billions of dollars placed into research, there has not been a great amount of success in helping victim’s survive the tragic battle. One company in Maryland has developed a vaccine to stimulate a patient’s own immune system to fight cancer. That company is Northwest Biotherapeutics; their vaccine is the DCVaxA-Brain.

The DCVaxA-Brain is a groundbreaking vaccine because it is made up of the patient’s own “dendritic cells”, master cells that direct the immune system. The “dendritic cells” have been activated and educated to mobilize the whole immune system to recognize and destroy cancer cells bearing the biomarkers of the patients own tumor.

Today, Northwest Biotherapeutics announced further long-term data for the period from January through September of 2009 from its prior Phase I and Phase I/II clinical trials conducted at UCLA with

Inovio Biomedical Corp. (INO) Announces Product Information at Vaccine Conference

QualityStocks (October 20th, 2009) Writes:

Leading DNA vaccine discovery company, Inovio Biomedical Corporation announced that their Scientific Advisory Board Chairman, Dr. David B. Weiner, highlighted advances in the company’s leading electroporation-delivered SynCon™ DNA vaccines at the AIDS Vaccine 2009 Conference in Paris.

The study, led by Dr. Weiner’s team at the University of Pennsylvania, included collaborators from Inovio and Merck. The team previously reported that DNA vaccines delivered using electroporation induced dramatic increases in T-cell and antibody-based immune responses. This collaborative study was the first to directly compare a DNA plasmid-electroporation platform with a recombinant Ad5 vector in an SIV model in non-human primates.

Dr. Weiner presented pre-clinical data showing higher levels of immune responses induced by Inovio’s DNA vaccines than to those induced by the recombinant adenovirus serotype 5 (Ad5) vector. Historically, recombinant Ad5 vector has been shown to be one of the most potent viral vectors for vaccines.

In his presentation, Dr. Weiner also

Zacks Market Commentaries (September 30th, 2009) Writes:
Yesterday, Dynavax Technologies Corp. (DVAX) announced that it has resumed the late-stage registration trial of its hepatitis B (HBV) vaccine Heplisav in patients with chronic kidney disease. The trial will enroll 600 patients. Heplisav will be tested against GlaxoSmithKline plc’s (GSK) Engerix-B. The company intends to begin another late-stage registration trial in adults over 40 years of age in early 2010. Dynavax expects to complete both trials within the next 2 years. The SAE was reported in the phase III study in healthy adults conducted outside the US. Wegener's granulomatosis is an uncommon disease which results in the inflammation of blood vessels. ...

Vaccination at Target Pharmacies – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (September 22nd, 2009) Writes:
Target Corporation (TGT) recently announced that with effect from October 2009, flu vaccinations would be readily available at over 1,500 Target Pharmacy locations nationwide. The vaccination program will begin on Oct 3, 2009, and run through Nov 7, 2009. The cost of flu vaccines starts at only $24.  Target accepts various insurance plans so that the people do not have to bear the cost of vaccinations. More than 200,000 people suffer from seasonal flu in the U.S. every year.  The target group falls within the age bracket of 6 months to 19 years and 50 years or above, pregnant ...

The Nasdaq finished the week up 1.8%, closing back above 2000 at 2020, up 28.1% on the year, while the S&P 500 and Russell 2000 managed to post gains of 2.2% and 3.1% respectively, bringing their yearly gains to 13.6% and 16.4%.

Concerns stemming from weakness in Chinese markets which have surrendered 20% in the past two weeks after climbing 109% from October lows spooked many investors expecting a similar correction in US markets early in the week. US
