Raytheon Company (RTN) bagged a $241 million U.S. Navy contract to deliver open architecture software capability for the Zumwalt-class destroyer (DDG 1000). Under the contract, software development will support the integration of human-computer- interface components for the ship's engineering machinery controls and damage control systems. Specifically, Raytheon will deliver computer graphical user interfaces and a technical data manager capability to control Zumwalt's ship propulsion, integrated power, auxiliary and damage control systems. The effort will also include support to land-based and shipboard testing of these subsystems. Work on this contract modification will be performed at Raytheon’s Integrated Defence Systems Headquarters, Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and at the Seapower Capability Center, Portsmouth, Rhode Island. The contract will boost the backlog of the Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems segment. Harris Corp. (HRS) declared better-than-expected results for the fiscal first quarter.  Net income was $109 million or 83 cents per share, compared to a net income of $119.4 million or 89 cents per share in the year-ago quarter. EPS of 83 cents was significantly higher than the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 78 cents. Total revenues were $1,203 million mostly in line with the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1,206 million. However, this was an improvement of 2.6% year over year.

Results were encouraging primarily due to strong performance in both the RF Communications and Government Communications Systems segments. Work is expected to be completed by Dec 30, 2013.   Manufactured by Lockheed Martin Space Systems in Sunnyvale, California, Trident II is a submarine variant ballistic missile. General Dynamics Corporation (GD) yesterday bagged twin contracts worth approximately $750 million from the U.S. Army and Navy.  General Dynamics’ subsidiary General Dynamics Land Systems bagged a five-year contract worth $430 million for work at the Army tank research center. The company will provide engineering, electronics and manufacturing services. Separately, General Dynamics bagged a $320.6 million contract from the U.S. Navy. The company will design, plan and provide engineering and technical support for active nuclear submarines till October 2010.  Earlier, General Dynamics maintained its brisk pace in order booking, taking the total backlog at the end of the second quarter of fiscal 2009 to $67.6 billion.
