GE to Sell Security Business – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (August 27th, 2009) Writes:
General Electric (GE) is arranging to sell its security business, which makes alarms, surveillance systems and other safety products, and hopes to attract bids in the range of $2 billion for the unit. This move represents GE’s strategy of exiting from non-core businesses. GE has hired JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) to sell the portion of its business that makes security products. The business has drawn interest from GE’s rivals United Technologies Corp. (UTX) and Tyco International (TYC). Security assets have traditionally attracted private equity buyers, but due to the difficult economic environment and an expressed interest by GE in selling these assets to a strategic buyer, bid amounts could be depressed for such a product portfolio. It remains in question whether acquirers will be interested in GE Security’s full portfolio of products, or only bits and pieces of the business. General ...

Brink’s Locked In at a Hold – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (February 18th, 2009) Writes:

Highlights include Brink’s Home Security Holdings (CFL) and Tyco International (TYC).Today we have initiated coverage on shares of Brink’s Home Security Holdings (CFL) with a Hold rating and price target of $20.00 per share.CFL installs, services, and monitors security alarm systems throughout North America. The company was spun-off from its former parent, The Brink’s Company (BCO) in October of 2008.As the second-largest security monitoring firm in the county, trailing only the ADT unit of Tyco International (TYC), the company is well positioned to add market share in a highly fragmented industry. CFL estimates that only 18% of households in the United States currently have a monitored system, suggesting that there is ample capacity to expand the overall market size.Despite this favorable market opportunity, we believe that the company will face material challenges in executing its business plan …

Tyco Electronics a Near-Term Hold – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (January 15th, 2009) Writes:
Tyco Electronics, Ltd. (TEL) is an OEM [original equipment manufacturer] of passive electronic components. The company separated from Tyco International on June 29, 2007. Fourth quarter revenue missed the consensus by a sliver, although the EPS exceeded. Forward guidance is for a -16% to -19% sequential decrease in sales in Q1. The divestiture of the power systems and RF businesses and de-emphasis on several computing products are restricting revenue growth. Lower volumes are also having a negative impact on margins. The debt level appears high. We believe the longer-term prospects are bright; however, we prefer to take a wait-and-see approach in view of the recession. Consequently, we are reiterating our Hold rating on TEL shares.TEL shares are currently trading at a 10.2x multiple of our 2008 earnings estimate (P/E). We are lowering the target price slightly to $15.00 (9.0x 2009 earnings estimate).Sejuti ...
