Trident Misses, Outlook OK – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (July 28th, 2009) Writes:
For the fourth fiscal quarter, Trident Microsystems (TRID) missed the consensus revenue estimate by 12.3%, and the EPS estimate by $0.01. Revenue was at the low end of the company’s guidance of $15.0 million to $18.0 million, and below our expectation of $18.0 million. EPS on a pro forma basis was also much below our estimate. Results for the quarter include the recently completed acquisition of consumer division assets from Micronas, which led to the sequential increase in revenue and EPS. Revenue for the quarter was $14.9 million, of which $8.0 million was from the newly acquired product lines and $6.9 million was from core Trident. This compares to $6.9 million reported on a standalone basis in the previous quarter and $39.5 million last year. Combined revenue for the quarter decreased 62.2% from the year-ago period, but increased 117.6% from the previous quarter. Non-GAAP gross margin ...

Consumer Electronics – Zacks Analyst Interviews

Zacks Market Commentaries (December 2nd, 2008) Writes:

OPPORTUNITIES

The strongest area in 2008 has been flat panel TVs, mainly high-definition [HD] LCD sets that are 40" or larger. In anticipation of a good selling season, the manufacturers had produced significantly more sets than had been sold through the retail channels.

WEAKNESSES

Thus, there is an inventory build-up back through the supply chain as far as the LCD glass manufacturers such as Corning Glass (GLW), including the component producers like Trident Microsystems (

Trident Leads a Slowing Group – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (October 3rd, 2008) Writes:
Trident Microsystems (TRID) is a leader in integrated circuits for Digital Television. While its products are used in all kinds of displays, LCD television is its most important growth market as LCD televisions take share from plasma in the market for larger screens as well as traditional CRT television sets of all sizes. Trident has design wins with major television manufacturers, including Sony (SNE), Toshiba, and Sharp and has added Philips (PHG) to the list. While there have been concerns of late that the market is slowing, we feel very confident that the market will grow very rapidly over the next few years. Trident expects to have greater than a 60% share at Sony and claims that its share at Samsung could reach 80%.The LCD TV market continues to grow, but the poor economic environment and the normal price declines has reduced the ...
