Dec. 2: The Best ETF Articles In The National Media

IndexUniverse Staff (December 2nd, 2008) Writes:

Bogle: Play Through The Recession

Vanguard founder John Bogle is the subject of a Q&A with the Associated Press. Nothing really new here except that the story's headline plays up the fact that the indexing pioneer seems to think that the recession could last 18 months to two years before things get better.

But the gist of the icon's comments is basically to play through the downturn, no matter how long it lasts. Bogle actually makes a pretty good argument for using such downdrafts to buy shares of the indexes you like at lower costs. Smart investors can wind up benefitting in the long run from such periods if they remain disciplined and focused, according to Bogle.

Update on Tobacco and 08

Jeffrey Miller (September 2nd, 2008) Writes:
Earlier in February we at Election Stocks covered the FDA’s regulation of the tobacco market and considered whether or not it would be beneficial to tobacco companies. Remember in the event the FDA does get control of tobacco they can oestensibly declare the product off the market any time they want. Or in the case of Lorillard they can declare menthol not an allowed product. That ability to decree an industry and company out of business is ...

Mortgage Fallout Affecting Google

Trader Mark (August 30th, 2007) Writes:

I have read this in multiple places but am on the lookout for ‘contagion’ plays from the mortgage fallout. This is an interesting one titled “Will Mortgage Collapse Hurt Web Ads?”

Some interesting points:

- Financial advertisers account for more than a third of all web advertising, and as the plunging share prices of investment banks clearly demonstrate, the mortgage crisis is affecting a lot more than the mortgage sector.
- Half of the top 10 were mortgage or credit-related marketers
