Logitech Acquires LifeSize – Analyst Blog

Logitech International (LOGI) announced that it has agreed to acquire privately held LifeSize Communications of Austin, Texas for $405 million in cash. LifeSize is a global leader in high definition (HD) video communication solutions, with more than 9,000 video conferencing customers across 80 countries in large enterprises, small-to-medium businesses (SMBs) and public healthcare, education and government organizations.   The acquisition will enable Logitech to extend its leadership in video communication beyond the desktop.

Logitech and LifeSize plan to pursue existing and new relationships with unified communications, collaboration and VoIP industry partners and competitors to drive the development of an open eco-system for interoperable video communication.

LifeSize expects approximately $90 million in revenues in CY 2009, with CY 2010 revenues expected to grow between 40% and 60%. Logitech expects the acquisition to be neutral to slightly positive to its operating income (excluding acquisition-related charges) in FY 2011, ending March 31, 2011, and

If you’re betting on a recovery in technology stocks based on third quarter earnings reports from companies such as IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Google (Nasdaq: GOOG), you’re not alone.

While economists and commentators debate the issue, many investors have already placed large bets on a V-shaped recovery for the tech sector.

They have some good reason to think so too, since the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite has risen 70% from its March lows. The problem is, they’re expecting “business as usual” in the industry… meaning they think spending will pick up the way it did in the 1990s.

UTStarcom Gaining IPTV Foothold – Analyst Blog

UTStarcom Inc (UTSI), a provider of IP-based broadband equipment, has become a major contender for the global IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) solutions business. The strategic decision taken by the management to transform the company from a mobile handset developer to an IPTV and fixed broadband access system solutions provider has been favorably implemented.

UTStarcom’s RollingStream IPTV solutions are acting as the main catalyst and at the end of March 2009; the RollingStream system supported more than 1.32 million IPTV subscribers worldwide with a total deployed subscriber capacity of 2.5 million. The company maintains a commanding market position in the Asian regions, especially in China and India.   Nationwide deployment of 3G wireless networks by Chinese telecom carriers has resulted in strong order bookings. Recently, China Telecom (CHA) announced plans to implement a large-scale Mobile TV system in China using UTStarcom’s RollingStream platform.
