First Solar Inc. (FSLR) has become the first photovoltaic (PV) company to manufacture and ship more than 1GW of its PV solar modules in fiscal 2009. As the world’s largest solar module manufacturer, First Solar has increased its manufacturing capacity from approximately 75MW per year at the beginning of 2007 to more than 1GW.  Earlier also First Solar has consistently lowered the cost of manufacturing solar modules. It was the first solar company to break the $1 per watt barrier in early 2009.  First Solar has always focused on long term sales contracts with its customers who are primarily European and US solar power system project developers and system integrators. First Solar Inc. (FSLR) announced that it would sell the 21 MW solar energy project that it has developed and constructed in Blythe, California, to NRG Energy Inc. (NRG). First Solar will provide operations and maintenance services at Blythe under a long-term contract with NRG Energy. This is second sale by First Solar, recently in October 2009 the company sold a 20 MW solar power project in Ontario to the Canadian oil pipeline company – Enbridge Inc. (ENB). Located in Riverside County about 200 miles east of Los Angeles, the Blythe project is California's first and largest utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) solar generation facility, and among the largest in North America. Construction on the project began in September 2009 and is expected to be fully completed by year-end fiscal 2009. Canadian Solar Inc. (CSIQ) reported adjusted EPS of 69 cents in the third quarter of fiscal 2009, which pushed past the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 52 cents per share. Also, adjusted EPS for the quarter was far higher than the year-ago quarter’s 31 cents. Canadian Solar net revenues in the reported quarter escalated to $213.1 million, compared to net revenues of $114.2 million in the second quarter of 2009 and $252.4 million in the year-ago quarter. In the reported quarter, following industry trends, the company witnessed a large spike in shipments, which rose to 102.6 MW, compared to shipments of 48.2 MW in the second quarter of 2009 and 60 MW in the year-ago quarter. ReneSola Ltd. (SOL) reported a third-quarter loss of 7 cents per share, worse than the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of 4 cents per share. However, the company was able to increase its revenues 70.6% to $140.9 million in the reported quarter from $82.6 million in the previous quarter.   Sales in the reported quarter were boosted by higher solar product shipments, a company record of 146.9 MW, an increase of 71% from 85.9 MW in the prior quarter. In the year-ago quarter, shipments were 90.4 MW, representing shipment growth of 62.5%.   The reported quarter witnessed a huge demand for solar products, with a number of companies setting their own peak of volume sales. ReneSola Ltd. (SOL) entered into a share purchase agreement with Dynamic Green Energy Limited to acquire 100% of its shares in consideration of 26.8 million ordinary shares and issue $10 million in convertible promissory notes. The transaction has already been approved by the boards of both companies. Dynamic Green manufactures solar products ranging from ingots to photovoltaic modules, through its wholly-owned unit Jiawei Solarchina Co. Ltd. and other Chinese operating units. The company also provides original equipment manufacturing services for leading solar manufacturers like Evergreen Solar (ESLR) and SunPower Corporation (SPWRA). ReneSola's acquisition of Dynamic Green is in line with the company’s focus on becoming a fully integrated solar company and will significantly increase its exposure in original equipment manufacturing capabilities. Canadian Solar Inc. (CSIQ) yesterday announced that is has obtained rights to design, install, operate and maintain a 500MW solar power plant system in Baotou, Inner Mongolia -- an autonomous region in the northern part of the People's Republic of China. Canadian Solar got a letter of intent from the Administration Committee of Baotou National Rare Earth Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone. Canadian Solar is one of the largest solar module producers in the world, with manufacturing based in China. However, the Canadian company generates the majority of its revenues from the European market (58.6% of revenues in Q2’09), while Asia generated only 27.2% over the same period. However, its European topline year-over-year has shrunk by almost 64.5%. To bridge the gap, the company has been actively cultivating Asian markets such as China and Japan.
