Set Up a Hedge Fund | Tips from Sykes

Richard C. Wilson (November 9th, 2008) Writes:
Setup a Hedge FundSetup a Hedge Fund | Tips from SykesBelow is an article being added to our Hedge Fund Startup Tools page. This piece is from Tim Sykes, a colorful wall street personality with a large online following and experience in running a small hedge fund and then writing a book on the experience, which I have reviewed here. I do not agree with everything noted below but I believe it is valuable as it is rare to read articles by those who have managed a hedge fund about the struggles of running a small hedge fund.______________________I brought an outline of my strategy and performance to a friend of a family friend, who supposedly had access to many hedge fund and ...

I have received inquiries asking for help raising capital for patent portfolios, real estate, land development, new hedge funds, software products, nanotechnology, wind farms and even a small airline company. Why is this happening? Raising Capital from Family Offices | Single Family Office Investing

Richard C. Wilson (November 2nd, 2008) Writes:
Capital from Family OfficesRaising Capital from Single Family Offices(http://HedgeFundBlogger.com) Here is a short piece on how many of the world's most sophisticated investors are looking to not only sustain current hedge fund related investments, but increase them. Here is the first shred of evidence that hedge funds are going to emerge 2x as strong in 2011 as they were in 2007:Advisers for ultrawealthy investors are bullish on hedge funds, with many planning to increase their allocations to the alternative investments next year, according to a new study.A majority (58%) of single-family offices around the globe participating in the On the Rise survey indicated plans to increase asset allocations in hedge funds for 2009. Raising New Hedge Fund Capital During the Crisis

Richard C. Wilson (October 30th, 2008) Writes:
Raising New CapitalRaising New Capital During the Crisis(http://HedgeFundBlogger.com) While many firms are hurting performance-wise I have spoken with over a dozen in the past 3 weeks still pushing capital raising efforts forward and showing positive performance so far for the year. Many managers are referring to this as a Darwinian process of weeding out those funds which did not have strong risk controls in place. To be fair I think most funds had consistently applied risk controls in place to weather "regular" market volatility and fluctuations and not movements which associate the time with the great depression. The hedge fund industry is not going away. When Soros mentions that the industry could shrink by 50% he fails to add in that most of that same capital will jump right back into other hedge funds or alternative investments ...
