Oxygen Biotherapeutics now has a clinical development pipeline which includes seven indications for Oxycyte(TM) emulsion. Oxycyte is the Company’s perfluorocarbon (PFC) therapeutic oxygen carrier. The new Oxycyte pipeline includes: Traumatic Brain Injury, Carbon Monoxide Poisoning, Surgical Iatrogenic Air Embolism, Spinal Cord Injury, Organ Preservation, Decompression Sickness, and Sickle Cell Crisis.

The company has also reported that its topical pipeline includes six additional indications in development for the Oxycyte Gel. The first use of the Dermacyte Gel is for a cosmetic line that is now available for pre-orders via the BuyDermacyte.com website, with product shipment expected in about four weeks. Other uses include treatment for Wounds, Burns, Acne, Rosacea, Cell Treatment after Radiation Therapy, and Erectile Dysfunction. Oxygen Biotherapeudics is also working on two additional uses for Oxycyte Compounds, including a ventilation device called VitaVent and a Deep Immersion Fluorocarbon Treatment for severe burns.

Yesterday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a more flexible design of Hologic Inc.’s (HOLX) MammoSite system, which provides radiation seeds to prevent recurrences of breast cancer. The company intends to launch the radiation therapy system, designed to treat early-stage breast cancer, in the first quarter of fiscal 2010. The MammoSite ML (multi-lumen) radiation therapy system allows physicians to target radiation to areas which are most likely to be affected by cancer and shift the dose away from areas that do not need it. MammoSite devices include balloon catheters that are inserted into the body after the removal of a tumor. A pellet of radioactive material is inside the catheter. Shares of Medarex Inc. (MEDX) soared the most in nearly a year after a mid-stage trial of its prostate cancer drug candidate was said to have cured two patients.

The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota reported that the drug, ipilimumab, when administered along with a hormone treatment and radiation therapy, was able to reduce the size of tumors to operable standards. Both patients had tumors deemed inoperable by surgeons since they expanded beyond the prostate into abdominal areas.

Medarex is developing the drug for treating melanoma, lung cancer and prostate cancer in collaboration with Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. (BMY). The mid-stage study for prostrate cancer involves 108 patients.

Medarex was trading up nearly 16% to $8.51 at noon on the NASDAQ after touching an intraday high of $9.01 earlier in the session. The shares had set a 52-week high of $10.12 in August last year.
