CBI Wins Refinery Project – Analyst Blog

Chicago Bridge & Iron Co. (CBI) has been awarded a project valued in excess of US$1.4 billion by Refinería de Cartagena S.A. (REFICAR) for the engineering, procurement services and construction of a new refinery, with processing capacity of 165,000 barrels per day, adjacent to REFICAR's refinery in Cartagena, Colombia. CB&I's scope also includes revamping the existing 80,000 barrel per day refinery. The overall project will relieve regional refining constraints and will enable REFICAR to produce clean, ultra-low sulfur gasoline and diesel from heavy crude.

REFICAR has chosen CB&I to be the single contractor to engineer, procure, and construct this important project, which is key to enhancing Ecopetrol's position as a leading producer for the entire region. Refinería de Cartagena S.A. is owned by Ecopetrol, Colombia's national oil company.

(JEC) has received a contract from Suncor Energy to provide project management, engineering and procurement services to complete the scoping study and Design Basis Memorandum (DBM) for tailings and water transfer projects. These projects are a portion of the Tailings Reduction Operations (TRO) implementation at Suncor's oil sands mining, extraction and upgrading facility located 30 kilometers north of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. Officials have not disclosed the contract value.  TRO is Suncor's new initiative to implement a Mature Fine Tailings (MFT) drying process, which results in the dry material to be reclaimed in place or moved to another location for final reclamation. Technip is a world leader in project management, engineering and construction for the oil & gas industry.  Air Products’ technology will be vital for Technip’s two liquefaction trains each producing 400,000 tons of LNG per annum for Ningxia Hanas Natural Gas Company, Ltd. Swiss-based drug company Anavex Life Sciences Corp. announced today that they have selected FORENAP Pharma as the contract research organization for Phase 1 clinical trials of ANAVEX 2-73, the company’s lead Alzheimer’s drug candidate.

FORENAP has been involved in pre-clinical and clinical research for 20 years and is renowned for its expertise in central nervous system studies, including Alzheimer’s disease. FORENAP will perform study setup, protocol review, site monitoring and project management for the trials. Rudy Luthringer, CEO of FORENAP, said, “We look forward to running a high-quality and cost-effective program as Anavex works to confirm its pre-clinical findings in a clinical setting.”
