Cash In On Bailouts With Mini-Dow Trading

DougWest (December 21st, 2008) Writes:

by Doug West
President Bush has been on the TV a lot lately. Too late for him to go down in history as a good president, but we will give him credit for trying. The Pres. has assured us all that we can grow our economy by spending more money. He even sent us each a few hundred to help us do that. One has to wonder if that was a set up for what was to come.

Next came the BIG bailouts for the banks and boys on Wall Street. Hey, where do we apply for some of that 700 Billion dollar pie? Well, don’t hold your breath on that one (in a moment we will show you how to cash in on the bail out actions with simple mini-dow index trading)!

Let’s see, if you are already in debt up to your ears - like the US government is, …

A HUGE Currency Rally!

Contrarian Profits (December 11th, 2008) Writes:

Another currency rally….  SNB cuts another 50 BPS!  Budget Deficit continues to widen!  Treasury yields go south for the winter! And Now… Today’s Pfennig!Good day… And a Tub Thumpin’ Thursday to you! It’s been quite the rally this week in the currencies led by the euro, which is like old times, eh? The Big Dog on the porch finally gets to stretch its legs and chase the dollar down the street! It’s been a long time since we’ve seen this go on for more than a day. Yes, we’ve seen one day spikes, and even two day rallies turn into false dawns, but this one has lasted about a week now. Ever since last Friday’s awful Jobs Jamboree, the tide has turned, and the Trading Theme that has held the currencies in a full nelson since the end of July, could very well be on the way out the door.

Retailers Still Ripe For Shorting

Contrarian Profits (December 1st, 2008) Writes:

The outlook is bleak for retailers, says Adam Lass. As job losses mount, households are cutting back on all non-essential spending. And massive government bailouts won’t reach the high street in the near future. Adam says investors should continue to short the retail sector.

This from Taipan Daily:

We came, we saw, we ate too damn much.

(One of these days, I’ll ask my oldest daughter to translate that into Latin for me. She never did master the more common romance languages. But she’s the family whiz at Cicero and Caesar.)

The second phase of the “Great Annual Pig Out” (the first being the candy-fueled grotesquery that has swallowed All Hallows’ Eve and the third, the week-long debauchery that is Chanukah-Christmas-New Years) is now officially over and done with.

Under our belts, as it were.

We drove, we flew, heck, those who couldn’t avoid it might

Why Inflation Is Still The Main Long-Term Threat

Dan Denning (November 10th, 2008) Writes:

Dan Denning takes issue with the idea that the Fed will be able to mop up the excess liquidity caused by its monetary expansion. Foreign savers are not going to keep funding US deficits forever. And that means the Fed must print more dollars to raise money. And that is super inflationary.

This from The Daily Reckoning Australia

Now to the big subject of the day: Inflation. You’d think evidence of even bigger deficits in the U.S. is clearly inflationary. But not everyone thinks so. The new prophet of doom, Dr. Nouriel Roubini, says at least four factors are setting up what he calls “Stag Deflation” (as opposed to the stagflation of the 1970s, where you had no growth and rising prices).

Roubini’s four forces of Stag Deflation are: a slack in goods markets, a “recoupling” of the rest of the world with the U.S.

Bailouts Will Bring Short-Term Relief, Long-Term Catastrophe

Contrarian Profits (November 7th, 2008) Writes:

“All of the nations that have resorted to money-printing in the past, ultimately saw a total economic collapse,” says Puru Saxena. The government bailouts and stimulus packages may provide some short-term relief, but the long-term hyperinflation and damage to the dollar will be much, much worse.

This from The Daily Reckoning:

Let there be no mistake; the U.S. has now transformed itself into a great socialist society by using taxpayers’ money to buy-out private companies. In my view, this ridiculous measure is a slap in the face of capitalism and will further promote reckless and dubious practices. Essentially, by bailing out the behemoths (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and AIG [NYSE:AIG]) and allowing the smaller fish (Lehman Brothers) to fail, the U.S. establishment is sending out the following message:

“If you want government protection, please become too big to fail. If your demise threatens our entire financial system, we will

Aracruz Ripped Down to Sell - Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (October 7th, 2008) Writes:
Brazil-based Aracruz Celulose S.A. (ARA) is the world's largest producer of bleached eucalyptus pulp, as well as one of the low-cost producers of this product. The company is responsible for 31% of the global supply of the product, which is used in the production of a wide range of paper products, including premium tissue, printing and writing papers, liquid packaging board, and specialty papers. We are changing our current recommendation on Aracruz from Hold to Sell. The international pulp and paper markets remain tight, but the short-term outlook for pulp prices is quite uncertain. The recent deal with VCP is a positive sign; however, second quarter results have been disappointing. Currently, Aracruz's ADR is trading at 6.7x our 2009 EPS estimate, well below the industry mean and median. For 2008 we expect a huge loss as the company will recognize its losses in currency derivative ...
