NVIDIA Corp. (NVDA) – Bull of the Day

Zacks Market Commentaries (November 10th, 2009) Writes:
NVIDIA Corp. (NVDA) posted revenue and earnings well above expectations. NVIDIA is poised for growth through improved cost management, rising demand for GPU and graphics chips, increased orders mainly from China and product launches.

The company is introducing new products at regular intervals and getting good feedback. We believe NVIDIA is well positioned in the longer term given its leadership in the Tegra line-up, the ramp-up of its 40nm process technology and share gains in notebooks and desktops.

We are looking for meaningful revenue growth and sustainable margin expansion. We have changed our rating to Outperform with a six-month price target of $17.00.Zacks Investment Research

Is the Jobs Data a Concern? – Analyst Blog

Charles Rotblut (October 1st, 2009) Writes:
Fears about the pace of the recovery have caused stocks to tumble. Technology stocks are being particularly hit hard with NVIDIA (NVDA) and Micron Technology (MU) down by more than 5% on the day. Financials and homebuilders are also faring poorly. Both Zions Bancorp (ZION) and Lennar (LEN) have large intraday losses. At the heart of the problem is the labor situation. The employment component in the ISM Survey worsened slightly to 46.2. (Readings over 50 signal expansion, or in this case, hiring.) Initial jobless claims also rose, reversing a previously weekly improvement. Dirk van Dijk pointed out on our Analyst Blog, "In recent weeks progress on claims has stalled out and become erratic." Compounding matters is the Monster Employment Index, which also worsened. The index declined to 119 last month from 121 in August. Monster Worldwide Vice President Jesse Harriott observed, "U.S. ...

Toshiba to Outsource Chip Making – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (September 8th, 2009) Writes:
The technology leader in high definition products and the world's no. 2 manufacturer of NAND flash memory chips, Toshiba Corp., plans to outsource a part of the production of its next-generation 28-nanometer (nm) system chips.

According to industry sources, the chips will be used in a wide range of electronics such as game consoles, digital cameras, flat panel TVs and other electronic gadgets starting in April 2010. To meet demand by that period, Toshiba will have to ramp up production. Its customers include IT giants like Apple (AAPL), which has already purchased $500 million worth flash memory chips from Toshiba.

Toshiba currently manufactures chips at its plant in Oita, southern Japan and plans to outsource to expand its production if capacity is insufficient.

According to sources, Toshiba is holding discussion with Singapore’s Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd. (CHRT) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) to spin off Globalfoundries

To compete with large vendors in the rising netbook PC market, Sony (SNE) plans to launch its new VAIO W series laptop, currently meant for the Japanese market. The new netbook is expected to hit stores in August with a selling price of around ¥60,000 ($629), according to some sources.

Nvidia Looks Evenly Poised – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (June 30th, 2009) Writes:

Santa Clara, California-based Nvidia Corp. (NVDA) offers digital media processors and related software for a wide range of visual computing platforms.

Things are going well for the company and it recently launched some new products like 12 new high-definition mobile Internet devices (MIDs) powered by the NVIDIA Tegra processor and new servers powered by NVIDIA Tesla(TM) GPUs. These new product offerings will have a positive impact on its revenue stream going forward.

Nvidia has a strong position in the gaming segment of the market for high-end graphics. Its GeForce line of graphics cards is essential for playing some of today's most popular computer games, and in this segment Nvidia has become a very familiar name. Although gaming is key to Nvidia's market, computing is becoming increasingly more visual according to the company, and we believe this is correct.

Although Intel (INTC) is aggressively competing with

Semiconductor Industry – Zacks Analyst Interviews

Zacks Market Commentaries (May 8th, 2009) Writes:
The metrics determining the 2009 outlook for the Semiconductor industry as a whole has been as volatile as ever. Pricing (ASP Erosion) and inventory buildup in the latter half of 2008 has plagued the industry and companies, particularly in the Specialized (SP) and Integrated Circuits (IC) areas, are still having a difficult time managing inventory to bring utilization rates to an optimal level for margin maintenance and growth.

The peak season for NAND flash in 2008 only lasted till the month of October, and prices for 16Gb and 32Gb chips fell again in November. Price adjustments during July and August of 2008 helped demand recover in October, but the poor showing of consumer electronics sales during the holiday season, aggravated by the global financial crisis, is expected to shrink demand for NAND flash again in 2009. Within the large-size shipments, IT applications dropped 7% sequentially in Q4:08 to 19.2 million units
