CNBC Bonus Bucks Trivia: According to the CNBC Stock Blog “Powering Your Portfolio: Uranium” what is uranium miner Cameco’s other business?

William A. Trent (June 30th, 2008) Writes:

According to the CNBC Stock Blog “Powering Your Portfolio: Uranium” what is uranium miner Cameco’s other business?

Looking to miners, Canada’s Cameco (CCJ) has a market capitalization of more than $13 billion and is the world’s largest uranium producer. It also mines gold.

Cameco scores average for each of the models I follow with the exception of return potential. It gets a low score there.

A Local Long Term Silver Play

Raymond Teo (June 30th, 2008) Writes:
In a lot of ways silver has been in recent decades the forgotten metal, struggling with an identity crisis as a poor man’s precious metal and/or a rather expensive industrial metal. In its glory days, Broken Hill in western New South Wales was known as Silver City, and to this day the highway leading into the town is so named. Broken Hill gave its name to a rather famous Proprietary, but these day’s when one thinks of BHP Billiton one doesn’t immediately think of silver, or for that matter the zinc and lead upon which the company built its foundations. Today junior mining companies are left to squabble over what commercial deposits may still remain at Broken Hill. Indeed for many years silver became merely a helpful by-product of mining for base metals occurring, as it often does, in base metal deposits. Base metal miners could sell the silver just ...

Naked Shorting in The Mining Sector

Alex Stanczyk (June 25th, 2008) Writes:

We have heard alot of discussion lately in regards to why the miners could possibly be doing so horribly, when history has shown us that mining stocks should be skyrocketing given the last 8 year bull run in precious metals.

Two words: Naked Shorting

Jim Sinclair has created a movement lately asking to enlist over 200,000 investors, and thousands of mining companies, to put a stop to the criminal activity of Naked Shorting that literally steals money from investors.  You can see more information on Jim Sinclairs initiative here.

One of the best detailed audio explanations of how Naked Shorting works, listen to this audio program.

Hopefully when this all starts coming to light, the brokers who have engaged in this criminal activity will be spending a long time in a cold cell with a large room-mate named Bubba who finds ex-stock brokers attractive.

Dutton Associates Featured Company: Seabridge Gold Inc. (AMEX: SA)

QualityStocks (June 20th, 2008) Writes:

Seabridge Gold Incorporated is a mining company that engages in the acquisition, exploration, and development of mineral properties in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The primary target for Seabridge Gold is gold itself, but several of its projects have copper as a byproduct of mining. With the value of copper rising along with the price of gold, it is not a bad problem for the company to have.

The company is led by a management team with a highly diverse background, and includes financial experts, miners, engineers and even certified geologists. President and CEO of the company, Rudi Fronk, has over 20 years of experience in the gold business and has served as both a senior officer and director of other publicly traded companies. Several other directors bring at least 20 years of experience in their respective fields and are willing to make the necessary sacrifices

Douglas Lake Minerals Inc. (DLKM.OB) Continues to Add Mining Concessions and New Finds to its Mining Exploration and Development Program

QualityStocks (June 11th, 2008) Writes:

When a company is working in the mining business it needs to think on a fairly large scale. Its operations can often extend to dozens of square kilometers. When, however, a good find in a historically active mining region is found, holdings and profits can start to exceed a “regular person’s” common perception of reasonable land ownership and potential profit.

Douglas lake Minerals Inc., an exploration and development mining company, works to locate and develop gold, silver, copper and diamond concessions. The company is currently working to develop concessions in Tanzania.

In recent quarters, the company has been aggressively adding mining concessions with positive testing results. Its Morogoro Tanzania concession has shown indications of significant gold and diamond deposits in excess of initial results (many at shallow depths.) To this end, the company has entered into a strategic partnership with Canaco Resources Inc. to locate and construct infrastructure within the property. Upon

Guanajuato Day 1

Sean Brodrick (May 22nd, 2008) Writes:
If you were playing along at home yesterday, and trying to guess the town I'm visiting on the first leg of my trip to Mexico, that town is Guanajuato.Guanajuato is an important city in Mexico both historically and mineralogically. Here is the view from the airport. See those mountains? They're stuffed with silver.Guanajuato comes from the name the indigenous tribes had for the area -- Quanax-juato - "Place of Frogs." I haven't seen any frogs so far (it's only my first day). The Valenciana silver mine located near the City of Guanajuato was one of the richest silver finds in all history. In the 18th century this mine alone accounted for 60% of the world's total silver production. Guanajuato is very proud of its mining heritage. There are statues of miners, like this one, along the roads. But mining isn't just a heritage in Guanajuato. There are ongoing silver mines, and potentially much, much more to find. That's what I'm going to ...
