The third largest US carrier has officially launched commercial services in Salem (Oregon), Milledgeville (Georgia) and Texas cities of Amarillo , Killeen-Temple, Corpus Christi , Lubbock , Waco , Wichita Falls , Abilene and Midland-Odessa. This follows Sprint’s 4G service launches in Atlanta, Portland and Las Vegas in August 2009.   Sprint offers its 4G service under the "Sprint 4G" brand and leverages the WiMax (a mobile broadband technology) network operated by Clearwire Corp. (CLWR) in which it holds 51% stake. The 4G WiMax network offers up to 10 times faster network speeds than the existing 3G deployments. Dow Chemical Co. (DOW) recently agreed to sell its hollow sphere plastic pigment product line to Fairlawn, Ohio-based specialty chemicals maker Omnova Solutions Inc. Hollow plastic pigments are used by the paper and paperboard industry. Dow also plans to close two production units at a Texas as part of its restructuring initiatives. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2009.

Volatile crude oil prices have significantly affected the basic chemicals market, forcing the second-largest chemical manufacturer in the world to divest its styrene monomer and ethylbenzene production at Freeport, Texas. This sale will reduce Dow’s exposure to a capital-intensive Basic portfolio. About 60 employees will be affected.

Dow Chemical Sells $6 Billion in Debt – Zacks Tale of the Tape

Dow Chemical Co. (DOW) said it would sell $6 billion senior unsecured notes to buy out preferred shares used for its recent acquisition of Rohm & Haas in a move that will reduce its debt burden significantly.

The Midland, Michigan-based company had borrowed $9.2 billion for the takeover last month and pledged to pay off the debt paid by the end of this year. The sale of debt securities includes $1.75 billion in 5-year notes, $3.25 billion in 10-year notes and a $1 billion 30-year bond issue.

The sale also helps Dow in saving substantially in dividend payments as perpetual preferred shareholders are entitled to about 15% in payouts. Shares of the company were up more than 6% to $16.77 in morning trade on the New York Stock Exchnage.
