Pricing of interest rate risk in fed funds futures contracts

James Hamilton (August 7th, 2009) Writes:

Do current fed funds futures prices signal a belief by market participants that the Fed may begin raising interest rates early next year? My latest research paper suggests not.

The expectations hypothesis of the term structure of interest rates posits that an investor could expect to receive the same return from buying a 6-month T-bill as from rolling over two 3-month T-bills. What that literature has shown is that when the 6-month yield is higher than the 3-month, on average you'd do better with it than with rolling over the 3-months. Typically the term structure slopes up, and typically you earn a higher return from longer

How to Play the Banks – Analyst Blog

Dirk Van Dijk (March 6th, 2009) Writes:
Highlights include AIG (AIG),  Citigroup (C), Bank of America (BAC) and Marshall & Ilsley Corp. (MI).I have been a long-time bear on the financials, especially the banks. However, at this point I think there are some serious values there that investors should seriously consider. No, not the common stocks -- they are likely to be severely diluted (if you dump a shot of Dewar's into Lake Michigan, can you call it scotch and water?).A good part of the banking system is, in all, probability insolvent.
