Petrobras’ New Oil Discovery – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (August 21st, 2009) Writes:
Petroleo Brasilerio, also known as Petrobras (PBR), found light crude in reserves situated in the Campos Basin off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The discovery was made by drilling well 1-BRSA-713-RJS (1-RJS-661) in Exploratory Concession BM-C-36 (block C-M-401). This block is exclusively operated by Petrobras. Preliminary analysis indicates that the Campos Basin has recoverable volumes of 280 million barrels of light oil. Geologically similar reservoirs had already been identified in the Santos Basin by drilling two wells in the Marlin Sul field. These discoveries are a result of the efforts and the modern technology that the company has been using in other production areas.  Petrobras' expertise in deepwater oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) is reflected in its outstanding production growth track record in the past as well as the production and reserves growth prospects in the future after significant ...

Jayhawk Energy Inc. (JYHW.OB) Finds Oil’s Rise to its Liking as North Dakota Project Starts to Produce

QualityStocks (June 11th, 2009) Writes:

Exploration and development are two fairly speculative processes. Much depends on a commodity pricing structure that can fall and rise at a moment’s notice. If an investor chooses to pay attention, however, they can profit handsomely. Understanding the opportunities, while also understanding the reserves that a company may hold for a longer term investment strategy, is the key. Energy, in its many forms, is not going away. A diversified energy portfolio is the trick and one that will benefit regardless of conditions.

Jayhawk Energy Inc., a natural resources company, works to discover, acquire and transport natural gas and oil primarily in North America. Perhaps the company’s best and largest project to date is its Bourbon County Uniontown Kansas property. The property is located within the Cherokee basin, a historically active and reliable location. The company’s 35,000 acres of leased land at this location currently indicate 163 Bcf of natural gas in

Heavy Oil Becomes More Appealing As Light, Sweet Crude Runs Out

Byron King (June 3rd, 2009) Writes:

When most people think of oil, they think of light, sweet crude that comes up out of little holes in the ground. You describe oil by its API gravity. For example, oil like Brent crude or West Texas Intermediate has an API gravity of 38-40. The oil that Col. Drake pulled from the ground at Titusville, Pa., in 1859 had API gravity near 60. These types of oil are relatively easy to pump from a reservoir, lift to the surface and transport via pipeline to the refinery.

The Shift to Heavy Oil, with an “Energy Microsoft” at the Forefront

But a significant portion of the world’s oil is much lower quality than the light, sweet stuff. Indeed, most oil that’s found in nature is a heavy, viscous hydrocarbon with the consistency of cold molasses. This heavy oil - defined as API gravity 22.3 or less - is difficult and costly to produce

Petrobras Findings “Political” – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (April 17th, 2009) Writes:
Petrobras' Political Influence a ProblemIn the last two weeks, Petrobras (PBR) announced two new finds. The first was actually announced by BG Group, which forms a consortium with Petrobras (40% BG - operator, 60% Petrobras), regarding the Corcovado-1 well in the pre-salt layer, which showed some evidences of oil at a depth of only 800 meters. The second announcement was made by Petrobras itself concerning the Guara and the Carioca wells, which belong to a consortium formed by Petrobras (45% - operator), BG Group (30%) and Repsol (REP) (25%). The company found light oil at a depth of 4,900 meters. The discovery of oil in depths of around 1,000 meters is great news, but ultra deep wells are difficult and expensive to explore, considering current oil prices. Nevertheless, the market reacted in positive way to the announcements; however there is other less positive news ...

Petrobras Priced Attractively – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (September 16th, 2008) Writes:

We are keeping our Buy recommendation on Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. or Petrobras (PBR) ADRs. We like Petrobras for its positive production-growth profile and the improving outlook for its downstream business. Moreover, the discovery of the giant Tupi field opens up a new range of possibilities for the company in the long run.

Recently, from the drilling of well known as lara in the northern part of Tupi field, PBR discovered light oil and natural gas, with estimated recoverable volume of 3 to 4 billion barrels of light oil and natural gas. The company's large inventories of development projects are also encouraging. Finally, second quarter 2008 results were better than expected, and the outlook for the following quarters remain quite encouraging, even though lower oil prices exist.

Even without considering some important new discoveries, Petrobras is expected to grow annual volumes by approximately 6% over the next few years. Some months ago
