Shares of Lazard Ltd. (LAZ) has slipped more than 7% today as the investment bank posted a loss in the first-quarter amid a sharp fall in advisory income and asset management fees.

Lazard reported loss per share of 26 cents, excluding items, compared to the consensus estimate for a profit of 31 cents per share.

Revenues declined 19% year over year to $248.4 million, primarily due to a 42% fall in M&A and strategic advisory income coupled with a 41% decrease in asset management fees.

The full year consensus estimate is down 26 cents over the past month to $1.70 per share, as 3 out of 8 covering analysts lowered expectations.
