MA = Movement Action

Investment U (September 10th, 2009) Writes:

M&A = Movement & Action

The days of blurred lines between investment banks, hedge funds and traditional banks are over.

And that means two things. First, the profits won’t be as juicy. And second, the top sales talent will consequently move to where the bonuses are the most lucrative.

Question is: Where is the “action” moving to?

One destination is the mergers and acquisitions world. And judging by the attention that Cadbury (NYSE: CBY) and Kraft Foods (NYSE: KFT) buyout discussions are getting, you can see why.

Just last week, we heard about Disney’s (NYSE: DIS) takeover of Marvel, and the merger news keeps rolling in.

Looking around the markets, there are few other opportunities for top talent to churn out fantastic bonuses and

Microsoft Sells Razorfish – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (August 10th, 2009) Writes:
Yesterday, Microsoft (MSFT) announced the sale of Razorfish, the digital advertising firm it received as part of the aQuantive acquisition in 2007. The consideration to be paid by Publicis Group, the acquirer, is around $530 million, partly in the form of cash and partly in 6.5 million Publicis Groupe treasury shares.   The agreement creates a win-win situation. Publicis Groupe gets to acquire a digital advertising company, which effectively transforms a quarter of its business to the digital model. With Internet usage increasing the world over, digital advertising is assuming increasing importance in today’s world. The price is also reasonable, given that the company generated around $400 million in revenues in 2008, and is expected to generate $360-370 million in 2009. The revenue decline is recession-related and does not indicate loss of position at customers. In fact, Razorfish’s customer base is another positive, as the company serves ...

General Mills Beats, Ups Dividend – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (July 14th, 2009) Writes:
General Mills (GIS) raised its annualized dividend by 9% to $1.88 from $1.72 per share, earlier. The quarterly dividend increased by 4% to $0.47 and is payable on August 3, 2009, to shareholders on record as of July 10, 2009. The dividend increase is a testimony of the company’s robust financial health, confidence in its key growth strategies and excellent growth prospects, going forward. GIS reported strong fourth quarter and full year 2009 results. The company’s U.S. retail unit, which includes Pillsbury baking products and Green Giant Frozen vegetables, posted a strong 12% increase. In addition, core brands such as Yoplait and Big G cereals also posted double-digit revenue increase. GAAP earnings almost doubled to $1.07 per share versus $0.53 in the comparable prior-year quarter of 2008, while excluding certain one-time items, earnings were $0.86 per share (increasing 17.8% year-over-year). In addition, the company ...

The Safest Dividend in the Dow – Investment Ideas

Zacks Market Commentaries (July 14th, 2009) Writes:
Editor's Note: I know many of you enjoy reading analysis of dividend-yielding stocks. Therefore, I am pleased to share with you this great article from Carla Pasternak.

Carla writes the Dividend Opportunities newsletter for our partner, StreetAuthority, and has some good insight on yields for the stocks within the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

-Charles Rotblut, CFA Senior Market Analyst, Zacks.com

The 30 stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DJI) sport some attractive yielding stocks -- many with more than twice the average yield of the S&P 500. But the question is: Which company has the safest dividend in the Dow? General Electric's (GE) double-digit dividend yield looked pretty juicy a few months ago -- that is, until they slashed it by -68%. And Citigroup (C), which recently got kicked out of the Dow, had a once-rich yield. Now its quarterly dividend payment stands at one lonely penny per share. But rest

More Growth for Green Mountain – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (July 1st, 2009) Writes:

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR) has reported double-digit revenue growth for the last 26 consecutive quarters, and, since the acquisition of Keurig, in 2006, the company has reported net sales growth of approximately more than 39% for 11 consecutive quarters.

In March 2009, the company acquired the Tully's Coffee brand and wholesale business, from Tully's Coffee Corporation. The acquisition is believed to be a good strategic addition to Green Mountain's coffee roasting family, as Tully's has a West Coast tradition of outstanding hand-crafted coffees and an established infrastructure in the wholesale business distributing coffee to over 5,000 supermarkets, as well as to office coffee service and food service distributors, located primarily in the Western and Midwestern U.S.

Green Mountain plans to benefit from synergies within its family of brands and the multi-channel distribution strategy to strengthen its leadership in the specialty coffee and in the single-serve brewing

Specialty Coffee Industry Defies Recession – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (June 29th, 2009) Writes:

Despite the recessionary environment, demand for specialty coffee has been rising. According to the data provided by the National Coffee Association's (NCA) 2009 National Coffee Drinking Trends market research survey, coffee consumption has remained steady at 59% so far in 2009, and the NCA also stated that the at home consumption has hit the highest levels in 2009 since 2003 increasing by 5%.

Further, Andrew Hetzel, President and Founder of Cafemakers, states that, a smaller-sized coffee with strong flavors provides more satisfaction to the consumer and therefore customers are also willing to pay more. Customers choose specialty coffee brands based on the total value proposition that includes quality, variety, convenience, and price. Therefore, companies such as Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR), Peet's Coffee & Tea (PEET), Kraft Foods (KFT), Sara Lee (SLE)
