Qwest Meets, Boosts Outlook – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (October 28th, 2009) Writes:
Qwest Communications (Q) has announced third-quarter 2009 earnings with reported earnings per share (EPS) of 8 cents matching both the Zacks Consensus Estimate and the year-ago quarter EPS. Net income declined 6.2% year over year to $136 million on lower revenues as erosion in legacy landline business continues. Operating revenue declined 9.6% from the prior-year quarter to $3.05 billion, primarily due to lower voice service revenue as consumers continue to disconnect their landline services. Qwest reported healthy growth in Internet revenue in the quarter, driven by respectable broadband customer growth. However, voice service revenue declined due to access line erosion. Results by Segment Business Markets Revenue from the business market segment declined 1% year over year to $1 billion due to declines across legacy voice and data businesses. DOCSIS 3.0 Gains Momentum – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (September 28th, 2009) Writes:
Major cable MSOs (multi service operators) in the U.S. are aggressively deploying DCOSIS 3.0 technology. Intense competition among cable operators, satellite carriers and telecom service providers for broadband market share has forced the cable MSOs to opt for cost effective bandwidth enhancing technology for high-speed network. DOCSIS 3.0 (also called Wideband network) is a digital channel bonding technique that creates one larger and faster logical pipe to support throughput of at least 100 Mbit/second. With DOCSIS 3.0, cable operators are now able to offer one of the fastest Internet speeds available in the market. Comcast Corp. (CMCSA), the largest MSO in the U.S., has announced that it will upgrade around 40 million homes and businesses of the company’s existing networks with next-generation super-fast wideband technology by the end of 2009. Cablevision System Corp. (CVC) is also increasingly deploying DOCSIS 3.0. Time Warner Cable Inc. (...

Arris Leads CMTS Market – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (August 26th, 2009) Writes:

Arris Group Inc. (ARRS) has become the world leader of the Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) market. According to a recent report of Infonetics Research, Arris achieved this milestone for the first time in its history during the second quarter. The CMTS market is highly competitive as large broadband gear makers like Cisco System (CSCO) and Motorola (MOT) are also major players. Arris always remains a strong contender for the North American market, but globally it performs poorly compared to its peers.

Arris has established a solid foothold in the rapidly growing CMTS market. The prime reason for this is the aggressive roll-out of DOCSIS 3.0 technology by cable MSOs. As a result of DOCSIS 3.0 implementation, downstream port shipment increased 9% globally during the second quarter compared to the previous quarter. At present, Arris commands approximately 47% of the global CMTS market having taken over the leadership

We maintain our Buy rating and the same valuation target for tw telecom (TWTC), a leading provider of managed voice & data networking solutions. TWTC continues to generate sustaining revenue from large business enterprises primarily through sales of Ethernet and IP-VPN services.

Comcast Aggressively Positioning Docsis – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (August 10th, 2009) Writes:
Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) is aggressively deploying Docsis 3.0 technology to upgrade its existing customers to high-speed network. Docsis 3.0 (also called Wideband network) is a digital channel-bonding technique that creates one larger and faster logical pipe to support throughput of at least 100 Mbit/second. Recently, management announced that it expects to upgrade around 40 million homes and businesses of the company’s existing networks with next-generation super-fast wideband technology by the end of 2009. This revised estimate exceeds Comcast’s previous guidance of 30 million homes and businesses.

With Docsis 3.0, Comcast is now able to offer one of the fastest Internet speeds available in the market. Key Telecom Trends: Part 1

Bullish Bankers (May 30th, 2009) Writes:

The world is seeing a move to on-demand information and mobile computing, evident by the explosion of smartphones in recent years.  Furthermore, bandwidth demand has increased drastically as more people are emailing, texting, downloading applications and watching YouTube on their cell phones, thus requiring networks to be upgraded accordingly.  Mobile networks have been upgraded both domestically and internationally to 3G and will eventually be revamped up to 4G.  In the home, cable networks have been upgraded from coaxial cables to fiber optics by companies like AT&T [T: 24.79, +0.16 (+0.65%)] and Verizon [VZ: 29.26, -0.01 (-0.03%)] to gain access to more HD channels and faster, more reliable internet connections. There has also been a shift on the consumer front as wireless companies have been rolling out unlimited prepaid plans favoring consumers looking to trade down and cut costs in this tumultuous economic environment.  I’ll give a
