Keith Fitz-Gerald (September 22nd, 2009) Writes:

[Editor's Note: Money Morning Investment Director Keith Fitz-Gerald is currently in Mainland China. Look for additional installments of his investment travelogue later this week.] By Keith Fitz-Gerald Investment Director Money Morning/The Money Map Report XIAN, People’s Republic of China – During the politically charged period in the late 1980s and early 1990s – when China believed it really needed friends – a small number of Western companies ignored the controversies and refused to abandon the market. Global investors will recognize some of the names: The Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO), Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ), and ABB Ltd. (NYSE ADR: ABB). In the years since, their courage and commitment has been rewarded with hefty market shares, growing profits, and a position of trust that’s very tough for an outside firm to obtain. These firms also …

James Giaquinto (July 17th, 2009) Writes:

What’s Behind China’s Assault on Google

Contrarian Profits (June 26th, 2009) Writes:

The feud between authorities in China and Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG) escalated Wednesday night when Chinese users were blocked from Google’s global Web site for a period of at least two hours.

For weeks China has been chastising Google for disseminating “huge amounts of porn and lewd information.” The company has made a strong effort to accommodate Beijing’s high “moral” standard by launching a separate Chinese Web site, Google.cn, to filter out sensitive information.

Still, China’s war on the search engine has only intensified. That has led some analysts to believe that the communist government is acting on behalf of Baidu Inc. (Nasdaq ADR: BIDU), or perhaps as part of a smear campaign to drum up support for its latest attempt to tighten its grip on Internet content that is becoming harder to control.

TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TSYS) Receives U.S. Patent for Deploying Content to Wireless Devices

QualityStocks (January 27th, 2009) Writes:

Today, TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted the company patent number 7,483,983 for “Method and System for Deploying Content to Wireless Devices.” This invention allows internet content to be displayed on wireless devices through web browser applications.

The Nielsen Company recently reported the results of a survey that found 17 percent of U.S. mobile phone users, or 43 million subscribers, access the Internet. Although these users are able to access internet content through the web browser of their wireless device, most internet sites are only designed to display information on a standard computer screen — not on small mobile screens. Additionally, wireless devices that access the internet use different mobile browsers and protocols, making it difficult for providers to consistently deliver content across a wide range of wireless devices.

TeleCommunication’s invention, however, allows internet content to be displayed in a variety of formats, dynamic

Touchstone Small Cap Top Stock Picks

CEO Blogger (August 13th, 2008) Writes:

Small-cap stocks haven’t been making many big headlines lately, but that could be changing, according to Touchstone’s Lawrence Creatura.  He’s found some interesting names for investors.

His four-star Touchstone Diversified Small Cap Fund is up an average of 11.92 percent per year over the last five years.

“That’s where the best companies are,” he told CNBC about the small-cap space.  “The companies are understandable, and investors appreciate that.”

Recommendations:

So which stocks does he want investors to understand?

Topping his list is Brown Shoe

“This is a classic value play,” he said.  “It’s a depressed multiple applied to a depressed earnings profile, and right now, the stock is so inexpensive it’s almost like a call option, which goes into the money if consumers return some day to buy shoes, and it seems to be a pretty safe bet that they will.”
