Intel Charged in Antitrust Suit – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (November 5th, 2009) Writes:
The $6.0 billion payment made by the world's largest chip maker Intel Corporation (INTC) over a five year period through January 2007 to its largest customer Dell Inc. (DELL) -- under programs initially titled 'MOAP' (Mother of all Programs) and then 'MCP’ (Meet Competition Payments) -- has backfired on Intel. This is the basis on which an antitrust lawsuit filed recently by the New York attorney general alleging a long business relationship between Intel and Dell. Andrew M. Cuomo filed a federal lawsuit against Intel, accusing the largest chip maker of paying computer makers illegal rebates for maintaining its monopoly and preventing another chip maker, Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), from gaining business with PC makers. This is not the only allegation that has been filed against Intel. In a similar case earlier this year, the European ...

Texas Instruments Ups Guidance – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (September 10th, 2009) Writes:
Texas Instruments (TXN) narrowed its third quarter revenue expectations to $2.73-$2.87 billion (a sequential increase of 9.7%-16.7%). Previous guidance was for revenue of $2.50-$2.80 billion (a sequential increase of 1.6%-13.8%). This effectively raises the mid-point of guidance by 5.7%. The company also expects earnings per share (EPS) to come in at 37 to 41 cents, compared to the previously guided range of 29 to 39 cents. Management stated on the call that the higher expectations were based on increased demand across all segments and particularly, the analog business. The main drivers within the high-performance category are HDD, PND and video games products. Power management products will benefit from the ongoing strength in notebooks, cell phones and other consumer products. The Embedded Processing segment is expected to benefit from particular strength in microcontrollers (catalogue products), as well as automotive products. The industrial business in China ...

Cisco Enters New Territory – Analyst Blog

Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) has decided to invest $32 million in South Korean Investment Fund, SkyLake Incuvest & Co. The plan is to invest up to $2 billion into the country’s technology industry over the next five years. SkyLake is engaged in funding technology companies through contributions in the form of private equity investments. Its recent investments include Viatron Technologies, which is focused on heat processing technologies for displays; DASAN Networks, a subsidiary of Nokia Siemens Networks, which makes switching and fiber- to-the-home (FTTH) equipment; and Wemade Entertainment Co., which develops online games. Cisco’s strategy is to enter new markets through joint ventures and gradually build its position in the area. This ...
