India’s Forex Reserves Up – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (July 1st, 2009) Writes:

India's Foreign Currency Reserve Moves Up

In a recent report released by the Reserve Bank Of India (RBI), the regulatory bank stated that India's forex reserves rose by US$ 8 million to US$ 263.652 billion for the week ended June 19, compared with US$ 263.644 billion a week ago.

Assets denominated in foreign currency increased by US$10 million to US$252.808 billion during the week against US$252.798 billion in the previous week. This gives the regulatory bank enough power to control unwanted exchange rate fluctuation.

The US dollar-denominated foreign currency assets include the effect of appreciation or depreciation of non-US currencies (such as Euro, Sterling, Yen) held in reserves, RBI stated in its release. The country's gold reserves and special drawing rights (SDRs), remained unchanged at US$ 9.604 billion and US$1 million respectively during the period.

With India, Long-Term Profit Potential Trumps Near-Term Concerns

Martin Hutchinson (May 21st, 2009) Writes:

Contributing EditorMoney Morning

[Editor's Note: When Slate magazine recently set out to identify the stock-market guru who most correctly predicted the stock-market decline that accompanied the current financial crisis, the respected online publication concluded it was Martin Hutchinson, a veteran international investment banker who is one of Money Morning's top forecasters. It was no surprise to our readers: After all, Hutchinson warned investors about the evils of credit default swaps six months before the complex derivatives did in insurer American International Group Inc. Then, last fall, Hutchinson "called" the market bottom.

Now Hutchinson has developed a strategy for investors to invest their way to "Permanent Wealth" using high-yielding dividend stocks. This strategy is tailor-made for an unpredictable stock market that's backdropped by an uncertain economy. Hot Stocks: IBM’s Diverse Business and Global Presence Should Boost First Quarter Earnings

Contrarian Profits (April 17th, 2009) Writes:

India’s information technology industry is one of the largest operations in the world – employing millions of engineers, technicians and customer service specialists who serve the world’s second-largest population.

The industry has enabled socio-economic development, enhanced economic growth and productivity, reduced poverty, and improved standards of living across the board. It’s even helped develop nuclear power in India.

And the company standing at the top of India’s IT mountain is not Infosys Technologies Ltd (INFY) or Tata Consultancy Services. And it’s certainly not Satyam Computer Services (ADR: SAY).

It’s Armonk, N.Y.-based International Business Machines Corp. (IBM).

“They’ve beaten their competition relatively handily,” Kaufman Bros.’s Karl Keirstead told Bloomberg, who pointed to IBM’s brand name and experience as draws for potential clients. “There’s a cachet in using IBM.”

IBM’s model is the anti-model. Whichever country the company is working in, it has
