For Immediate Release

Chicago, IL – November 5, 2009 – Zacks.com announces the latest Industry Outlook. Today, Zacks Equity Research discusses the Alternative Energy sector, including Evergreen Solar Inc. (ESLR), JA Solar Holdings Co Ltd. (JASO), A-Power Energy Generation System (APWR), LDK Solar Company Ltd. (LDK) and First Solar Inc. (FSLR).

Alternative energy stock prices generally rise and fall in direct proportion to the price of crude oil. While in times of high oil prices this may present an opportunity, it also increases volatility in the sector.

Industry-wide excess solar cell and module capacity have led to stockpiling across the board. As a result, we think the performance of companies such as Evergreen Solar Inc. (ESLR), JA Solar Holdings Co

Alternative Energy – Industry Outlook

Zacks Market Commentaries (November 4th, 2009) Writes:
OUTLOOK The Alternative Energy industry is going through a recovery after absorbing the global recession and the cascading fall in global crude oil prices. Earlier this year, quite a few alternative energy companies were in the trough. Though these companies have recovered from their lows, their valuations are still significantly lower than their 52-week highs. The growth of alternative energy companies is closely tied to the fortunes of the economy. In its latest release, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) predicted that total U.S. electricity consumption will decline by 3.3% in 2009 before growing by 1.3% in 2010 as the improving economy coaxes a gradual recovery in electricity sales. In fiscal 2008, annual U.S. photovoltaic (PV) installed capacity grew by 63% year-over-year, bringing the cumulative installed capacity to 792MW. According to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) -- the U.S. trade association representing close to 500 companies ...

Crude Drops

Doug Casey (June 22nd, 2009) Writes:

In the energy market on Friday, crude for July delivery declined, closing at $69.55/barrel, down $1.82. July reformulated gasoline plunged 10.51 cents, to $1.9244/gallon. “Our bearish view on oil price is mainly the result of a lingering weak demand for oil products and relatively high oil [inventories levels],” said Commerzbank analysts.

Crude moved higher earlier, as “Investors are looking for a confirmation of their bullish expectations and find it in the news flow from Nigeria,” the Commerzebank analysts said.

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta said yesterday that it blew up a pipeline belonging to a subsidiary of Eni SpA. It was the latest of a string of attacks against oil companies. The pipeline, owned by Agip, delivers crude to the Brass export terminal, which has a daily capacity of about 160,000 barrels.

In the natgas arena, the fuel posted a gain on the week, with July futures

Energy Blast – June 19, 2009

Robert Amsterdam (June 19th, 2009) Writes:
The Energy Ministry is investigating ways of reducing taxes on undeveloped gas fields, having seen that even with high oil prices most projects would not be financially solvent.  Ukraine's energy company Naftogaz has said that to avoid the possibility of a gas suspension, European firms should consider buying Russian gas and storing it in Ukraine.  Russian gas exports to Europe via Ukraine fell 45.5% in January-May 2009, year-on-year.   The European Commission has cautioned Gazprom and Naftogaz to secure a long-term contract to maintain steady supplies of gas to Europe.  Sergei Lavrov has met with EU ambassadors and 'positively assessed Russian-EU cooperation' over this issue.  The FT reports that a lack of investment in modernizing the energy infrastructure of central and eastern Europe is an obstacle to guaranteeing upplies.  If oil rises to $90 a barrel next year ...
