Tampa Electric Submits Fuel Report – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (September 2nd, 2009) Writes:
Tampa Electric, the principal subsidiary of TECO Energy (TE), recently submitted its annual fuel report to the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC). Lower fuel and purchased power costs during the first half of 2009 and reduced estimates for the remaining half of 2009 and 2010 will bring down the fuel portion of electricity bills of all consumers from January. Tampa estimates the fuel charge for a residential consumer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month to decline by $6.32.   This reduction in electricity bills will more than offset the rise to the base rate part of the bill, which was approved by the FPSC this March and will come in effect from January. Consequently, the monthly bill for a residential consumer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours will be $113.21, resulting in an overall reduction of $1.46. This, however, is subject to requisite approvals by the FPSC.   TECO is ...

Words from the (investment) wise for the week that was (June 22 – 28, 2009)

Prieur du Plessis (June 28th, 2009) Writes:

“Words from the Wise” this week comes to you in a shortened format as I do not have access to my normal research resources while on the road in Europe (also see my post “Gone A.W.O.L. - to Slovenia and Switzerland“). Although very little commentary is provided, a full dose of excerpts from interesting news items and quotes from market commentators is included.

While investors’ hopes of an economic recovery might have got ahead of reality, the cartoonists continually reminded us of worrisome issues …

In Guatemala, Chronicle of a Murder Foretold

Robert Amsterdam (May 14th, 2009) Writes:
I was quite alarmed this past weekend to read about the murder of the Guatemalan lawyer Roberto Rosenberg, which to me recalled the brutal, mafia-like slaying of Russian lawyer Stanislav Markelov.  As someone who has worked on a politically volatile case in this country for many years, whose team has received repeated death threats and kidnapping attempts, I take it very seriously when anyone who attempts to work within the legal system is deliberately targeted.  However this case suddenly got much bigger, when during his funeral a few days later, the following video was distributed in which Rosenberg himself appears to personally blame the president, the first lady, and several other government officials of plotting his murder to cover up a money laundering and fraud operation at Banrural. ...

Suspect Detection Systems, Inc.’s (SDSS.OB) Letter to Shareholders

QualityStocks (May 1st, 2009) Writes:

Earlier last month, Suspect Detection Systems Inc. published the following letter which was addressed to all shareholders. The letter highlights the abilities of the company’s Cogito Technology to detect the hostile intent of terrorists and criminals, and introduces the management team of Suspect Detection Systems Ltd, subsidiary of Suspect Detection Systems Inc.

Dear Shareholders,

In 2009, terrorists and criminals are better organized and more sophisticated than ever before, taking advantage of new techniques and flaws in public awareness to commit devastating acts. To keep public citizens and private enterprises safe from potent threats requires an even greater degree of sophistication and advanced technology.

Suspect Detection Systems Inc. (SDS) is a developer of proprietary anti-terror and anti-crime technology designed to identify threats in real-time, and prevent incidents before they are carried out. The technology detects the hidden ‘hostile intent’ of assailants-before they commit their intended acts-with a remarkable
