Broadband Boom in China – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (July 20th, 2009) Writes:
China, the largest telecom market in the world by subscriber count, is likely to witness broadband boom. Government clearance for nationwide implementation of home-grown 3G (TDS-CDMA) networks has prompted the three main Chinese carriers, viz, China Mobile (CHL), China Unicom (CHU) and China Telecom (CHA) to aggressively roll-out xDSL and FTTx services. Various industry sources predicts that DSL connections may reach up to 126 million and that of FTTx connections may reach up to 50 million in China by 2014. At the end of April 2009, China had 671 million wireless subscribers, and penetration was approximately 45% in the country. It is estimated that the number of mobile users in this region may surpass 750 million by 2010. We believe this significant broadband market opportunity will provide tremendous growth potential to several telecom equipment manufacturers. Recently, L.M. Ericsson (ERIC) received fiber-to-the home (FTTH) ...

Zacks Market Commentaries (July 10th, 2009) Writes:

C.wire, a 150 gigabit per second (Gbps) optical link for storage, data center and high-performance computing connectivity, is the latest offering from Finisar Corporation (FNSR). This is based on the CXP form factor. C.wire has the capacity to provide the efficiency required by any cable solution, which provides data throughput of 100Gbps and above.

The C.wire active optical cable (AOC) utilizes fiber optic technology to transmit parallel high-speed data in 100+ Gbps, and has many applications such as InfiniBand, 100G Ethernet and proprietary high-speed interconnections. We believe that the networking and the computer hardware industry was looking for such a product for quite some time. Now that the product is available, it is expected to be received well in the market, particularly by customers such as Cisco Systems (CSCO), EMC (EMC), Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) and IBM (IBM).

This new product offering would ramp up the revenue for the
