J&J has an enormously diverse revenue stream consisting of market leading products in all three of its business segments.

Strong Quarterly Results

The company reported an excellent second quarter in mid-July. Earnings per share of $1.18 translated into an increase of 12.3% over the second quarter of 2007 (excluding an in-process R&D charge of $40 million). The second quarter earnings result topped analyst expectations by 4%. During the past 5 straight quarters, JNJÂ’s earnings per share came in above Wall Street estimates by an average of 4.5%

Record sales of $16.5 billion ascended 8.7% from last yearÂ’s second quarter.

Rising Estimates

The company upped its full-year earnings guidance to a range of $4.45 to $4.50

GATX Corp. (GMT) provides lease financing and related services to customers operating rail, marine and other targeted assets.

A Long Record of Providing Income

The company recently declared a quarterly dividend of 27 cents per share, noting that it is payable September 30, 2008 to shareholders of record on September 15, 2008.

GATX added that it has paid a quarterly dividend uninterrupted since 1919.

Second Quarter Boasts Growth

The company also recently announced strong second-quarter results. Earnings per share of 82 cents outperformed the year-prior79 cents and topped the consensus estimate by a penny. Revenue of $359.2 million advanced from last year’s $328.5 million.

"We posted another solid quarter in the face of a weak economic environment," said Brian A. Kenney, president and chief executive officer of GATX. "As we projected earlier in 2008, it is becoming more difficult to renew railcar leases with existing customers and lease rates are being pressured.
