Micron Tech’s Q4 Results Beat – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (September 30th, 2009) Writes:
Micron Technology Inc. (MU), a provider of advanced semiconductor solutions fourth-quarter of 2009 earnings beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 9 cents. The company posted a net loss of 10 cents per share, much better than the 45 cents loss reported in the year-ago period and 36 cents in the previous quarter as demand and price for memory chips improved. Revenue for the quarter was $1.30 billion, down 10.1% from the year-ago period. However, revenue was above the consensus estimate of $1.27 billion and increased sequentially by 17.7%. We remain encouraged by the company’s continued cost reduction initiatives while pursuing strategic alternatives with tighter capital expenditures and operating expenses. During the quarter operating expenses declined 19.3%, primarily due to lower R&D expenses which fell 16.8%, and lower SG&A expenses which declined 23.4% year over year. Micron’s memory and image-sensing chips are used by International Business ...

Hot Stocks: Three Reasons Apple is Bucking the Recession

Money Morning (July 23rd, 2009) Writes:

Is high-tech stalwart Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) bucking the worst downturn since the Great Depression?

It sure looks that way.

Despite a cautious veneer during Apple’s quarterly conference call Tuesday, company executives ended up painting a picture of a company that continues to elbow aside recessionary pressures – thanks chiefly to three key factors. Indeed, executives said that Apple:

Is gaining market share in its computer business, while PC rivals are losing ground.
Once again obliterated forecasts in its iPhone business.
And continues to see growth in its company-operated retail unit – at a time when many retailers are literally running on fumes.

Apple said earnings zoomed 15% in its fiscal third quarter – the best non-holiday quarter in the company’s history – at a time when virtually every other major …

Apple’s Supply Deal With Toshiba – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (July 22nd, 2009) Writes:
During the third quarter earnings conference call, Apple (AAPL) said that it has entered into a long term supply agreement with Toshiba Corporation. Under the agreement, Apple made a pre payment of $500 million to secure long term supply of NAND Flash chips for use in its future mobile devices. No specific details on the agreement were provided during the call.  This prepayment is not reflected in the June quarter results but will impact the company’s fourth quarter cash balance. We expect fourth quarter cash balance to decline to $23.7 billion. For the third quarter, Apple generated cash flow of $2.3 million versus $0.8 million generated in the second quarter. Cash, short-term investments, and long-term marketable securities were $31.1 billion at the end of June quarter versus $28.9 billion at the end of the March quarter.  As Flash components are a key element in Apple’s products, ...

SanDisk Stock Up on Samsung Deal – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (May 27th, 2009) Writes:
Samsung and SanDisk (SNDK) have renewed a long-standing agreement on the supply of NAND flash memory (flash memory retains data after the device is turned off, NAND and NOR are the two types of flash memory). This removes an uncertainty that Sandisk would not be able to supply its customers with flash memory if the agreement was not renewed. An aborted attempt by Samsung to buy Sandisk had been taken as a sign that Samsung may not renew the contract.Samsung and Sandisk need each other. Samsung has the capacity (Sandisk also has supply agreements with Toshiba) and Sandisk has marketing channels that Samsung does not reach. Sandisk also has a patent portfolio that generates a stream of earnings and Samsung uses those patents. In 2008, the NAND flash market was in an oversupply position. The three major suppliers (Samsung, Toshiba and Sandisk have over ...

Company Watchlist – April 13-17/09

Michael Vlaicu (April 11th, 2009) Writes:

This coming Monday should turn out to be one of the most interesting opening bell’s as of late. A Lot of buyout rumours, Q10s being reported and amongst other things, we should get a more clear picture as to the progression of the US banking system.

Some of the companies I will be keeping a keen eye on:

SAY (Satyam Computer Services(ADR) - Full of scandals and allegations, this company may prove to be one of the cheapest discount assets to purchase within 2008. Over the weekend and into Monday, it is expected that several billionaire companies will be engaged in a bid to buy 51% of SAT, highest PPS wins. Satyam, one of India’s six largest IT outsourcing companies, counts such Fortune 500 companies as Sony among its customers.
