Siemens Expands in Israel – Analyst Blog

Siemens AG (SI) recently bought a 40% stake in Israel-based Areva Power Co. for $15 million. Areva develops, builds and operates photovoltaic plants. This is another significant step in strengthening green and sustainable technology initiative by Siemens. Due to intensive sunlight and steadily growing demand for energy, Israel is an ideal location for developing solar energy business.

It will now be possible for Siemens to build Israel’s first commercial solar farm in the region between the Dead Sea and the Red Sea. The company will handle project management including engineering and construction of the photovoltaic plants. It has signed a framework agreement to build plants with a total output of 40 megawatts (MW). Corning’s 1Q Tops Street’s View – Zacks Tale of the Tape

Shares of Corning Inc. (GLW) is up more than 4% today as first-quarter earnings came ahead of the consensus.

The maker of specialty glass reported earnings of 10 cents per share, excluding items, which topped the average estimate by 4 cents.

Corning said revenues fell 39% year over year to $989 million due to sluggish sales across Display technologies, Environmental technologies and Telecom segments.

"With increased volume and manufacturing capacity, we should see considerable improvement in both the display segment's and the company's gross margins in the second quarter," said CFO James B. Flaws.

Although Corning did not provide a sales or earnings guidance, it doubled the growth forecast for LCD TV units to 18% from the earlier expectation of 9%.

Mantra to Engage in $3.5 Million Development Project with Korean Engineering Company

SEATTLE, WA, April 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Mantra Venture Group Ltd. (’Mantra’, OTCBB: MVTG, FSE: 5MV) is pleased to announce that it has just signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Bluebird Co. Ltd. (Bluebird), an environmental engineering company based out of Seoul, Korea. Under the terms of the MOU, Bluebird will become an integral partner in the development, deployment and eventual commercialization of Mantra’s Electro-reduction of Carbon Dioxide Technology in various territories within Asia.

As outlined in the MOU, the partnership will progress through three transitional phases. Under Phase 1, Mantra will deliver a 1kg-per day ERC demonstration unit to Bluebird in Korea by November 2009, after which both companies will collaboratively develop and improve upon the current technology.
