Arch-GNP Sign Coal Lease Pact – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (November 13th, 2009) Writes:

Arch Coal Inc. (ACI) and Great Northern Properties Limited Partnership (GNP) have entered into a coal lease agreement for all of GNP’s coal resources in the Otter Creek Tracts located in southeastern Montana. Following the agreement, Arch will own the right to mine about 9,600 acres (731 million tons) of GNP-owned minerals for a consideration of 10 cents per ton or $73.1 million, payable in equal annual installments over a period of five years. The 731 million tons of high-quality, low-cost, sub-bituminous coal reserves, which are low in sulfur dioxide content, are located in the Ashland coalfield southeast of Billings, Montana.   The coal lease provides a future growth opportunity for Arch to build a significant position in the Northern Powder River Basin coal region. We believe investment in these low-ratio reserves would support the future development of a large-scale, dragline-operated surface coal mine. It will also give Arch

Zacks Market Commentaries (October 29th, 2009) Writes:
Energy delivery company CenterPoint Energy Inc. (CNP) today posted net earnings of 31 cents per share, in line with Zacks Consensus Estimate of 31 cents and lower than last year’s earnings of 39 cents. The company’s core regulated operations reported strong earnings results during the quarter despite the economic downturn. Operating income at CenterPoint’s electric transmission & distribution segment improved 8% over last year to $218 million, consisting of $187 million from the regulated electric transmission & distribution ...

Energy Blast – October 15, 2009

Robert Amsterdam (October 15th, 2009) Writes:
According to ITAR-TASS, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has commented that Russia does not object to selling energy resources using domestic currencies.  How done is the Russia-China gas deal? wonders the the FT.  Gazprom will buy 500 million cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan next year.  The Times has a piece on the 'take-and-pay' system which is now causing friction between suppliers and buyers.  Norway's Aladdin has signed a five-year contract to provide gas from a field in the Komi republic to a Gapzrom subsidiary.  ConocoPhillips is apparently 'non-committal' on a possible sale of its 20% stake in Lukoil.  Serbia expects as much as $13.4 billion to be invested in modernizing its energy sector by 2015, and is working with Gazprom.  Iraq has given a consortium led by Eni the right to develop its ...

Savoy Energy Corp. (SNVP.OB) Finds Profit in its Ability to React in Any Condition

QualityStocks (September 30th, 2009) Writes:

Given the current state of the energy markets, being a large company is not necessarily a good thing. Flexibility is a distinct advantage. Mid and larger energy companies tend to focus on larger properties where capital costs can be extreme, limiting the ability to adapt to changing conditions. As the book says, “small is beautiful.” In a variable market, a company that can adapt quickly is one that will be profitable.

Savoy Energy Corp., an oil and gas extraction company, works to extract and sell oil and gas primarily in the United States. The company recently signed agreements to explore for oil in Fiji.

Although the company is open to all potential properties, it is currently extracting and re-working existing wells in Gonzales, Texas. The company appears to be extremely structured in its operations with a particular focus on cost controls. Generally speaking,

Dana Gas’ 2Q results benefit from Kurdistan exposure

Jason G. Wulterkens (August 16th, 2009) Writes:

Sharjah-based Dana Gas, the Gulf’s first privately run natural gas firm, reported a 31% increase in gross profits compared to the same period last year. Concurrently, net profits grew more than eleven-fold. As usual, the firm’s Egyptian operations played a central role to its financial results; in fact, during the second quarter alone two new fields there came on stream, the firm made a new gas discovery, and it realized three successful appraisal wells–all adding to gas reserves. However, according to CEO Mr Ahmed Al-Arbeed, condensate sales stemming from its operations in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq were just as pivotal to the firm’s recent success. Dana Gas signed strategic partnership agreements with both an Austrian and a Hungarian-based integrated oil and gas group during the second quarter, the beginnings of the culmination of a $400 million investment in the region made in
