Superlattice Power, Inc. (SLAT.OB) Benefits from Recent Achievements

QualityStocks (August 28th, 2009) Writes:

Superlattice Power, Inc., developer of advanced high-energy batteries for use in electric cars and other demanding applications, is continuing its move toward the world’s most efficient lithium ion battery. The company recently announced that they were able to dramatically increase the driving range of an electric car, produced by EV Innovations Inc.

Using a multi-stage charging process, where the charging rate was able to follow a differential curve obtained through previous experiments, in conjunction with a new battery management system, researchers were able to increase EV driving range by at least 50%. The tests were done using a 29.6 Kwh lithium ion battery.

Superlattice plans to continue work with a next-generation battery pack, where the cathode material with superlattice structure will be used, and the expected specific capacity is 1.5 times compared to the cathode. The company’s goal is to develop and

Superlattice Power, Inc. (SLAT.OB) Moves Forward With Manufacturing Plans

QualityStocks (August 26th, 2009) Writes:

Superlattice Power, Inc., emerging leader in the development of the next generation of batteries for electric and hybrid vehicles, is continuing with their recently announced plans to establish a manufacturing unit for their advanced lithium ion polymer batteries. The company is working with an unnamed Asian company to set up the first pilot scale production unit in Mooresville, North Carolina. The plant is expected to have an initial production capacity of 36,000 cells per year, enough to supply 450 electric vehicles. Once fully operational, the plant is targeted to produce approximately 100,000 cells annually.

The advantage of Superlattice’s advanced battery is the use of a cathode material that has a superlattice molecular structure, giving the battery a significant new potential for increased energy. Superlattice has developed a cathode material for lithium ion batteries with a capacity of nearly 1.5 times currently available

Can The Volt Save GM?

Investment Education Staff (August 19th, 2009) Writes:

by Dino Delellis

Amongst GM employees, aside from the fear of getting a pink paper next week ( or the week after ) speculation is high as to whether the concept vehicle, being called the Volt, is going to be as revolutionary as the hype suggests.

GM, Ford and Chrysler arrayed a huge number of lawyers and much cherished Washington lobbyists to go after California after it decided to introduce a zero emissions rule on part of all car fleets. While GM was fighting California, it was also building an electric car, 10 years ago called the EV1. The state lost, GM breathed a sigh of relief and promptly destroyed all EV1’s and sold the patents.

It was said that the link between GM and big Oil was never so blatant as when the EV1 was shelved, the many patents accompanying that huge R&D effort was simply sold to BIG OIL.

Cash For Clunkers … and now “Cash For Traders”

Trading School (August 17th, 2009) Writes:

Before I get into the “Cash For Traders” topic, I have something to share with you that is very disturbing. I am getting spammed… that’s right, spammed by the White House. I have never asked for e-mails from the White House, nor have I signed up for e-mails from the White House. But for some reason David Axelrod, a close adviser to President Obama, feels he can just e-mail me at will trying to sell Obama’s universal health package.

Mr. Axelrod please stop this practice now! (see White House Spam here)

I never ever envisioned the White House becoming a spammer, nor did I envision the White House resorting to spam tactics. The White House is using the same spam tactics as every other con artist. You know the ones I am talking about… get-rich-quick schemes and work at home

More Empty Houses in America

Bill Bonner (August 4th, 2009) Writes:

Is it time to buy a house? Depends…

If you need a place to live and want to own a house, why not? Prices in some areas are fairly reasonable. But if you’re speculating, our guess is that you’ll get a better deal if you wait.

Why? For the many reasons we have given you in these Daily Reckonings. House prices may be firming in some areas – that’s what the Case-Shiller numbers seem to show. But nationwide, they are probably headed down for quite a while longer.

Herewith, four reasons why:

First, as you know, this is a depression. It will probably be long. And deep. You wouldn’t know it from looking at the stock market or reading the news. The Dow went up another 114 points yesterday. Oil rose to $71. And the dollar – anticipating inflation – fell to $1.44 per euro.

But that’s what bounces are supposed to look like.

Wobble Time

Contrarian Profits (July 29th, 2009) Writes:

The cat let out of the bag last week — a frazzled, flaming, rabid, death-dealing cat — was the news that Goldman Sachs announced impressive second-quarter profits, and set aside $18 billion or so for employee bonuses averaging $600,000 per head (though, of course, not evenly distributed among them). There probably are not fifty-three people in the USA who can explain how this development figures in with last fall’s bailout gift from the US treasury, or the $13 billion GS received on the backside of US gift payments to the failed AIG insurance company, plus the reams of necrotic securitized debt paper rotting in the back of the GS vaults. This is a company playing with the fire of world history.

It brings back the question, which has loomed dimly at the margins of America’s collective consciousness, as to whether we can get through the long emergency ahead without

The Ethanol Fraud

Christian Hill (June 3rd, 2009) Writes:

While the viability of the electric car is still heavily debated, the other attempt to reduce our dependency on foreign oil is making news again. And the news is not good. Ethanol fuel currently comprises up to 10 percent of a gallon of gas. There is a movement underfoot, primarily led by 54 ethanol manufacturers, to increase this to 15 percent per gallon. This request is based on the current government mandate that 10.5 billion gallons of ethanol be blended into gasoline this year, and rise to 36 billion gallons by 2022.

Look at it this way: there likely won’t be enough demand for that many gallons by 2022 at the current 10% blend, so the only way to reach the target is by increasing the blend to 15%, perhaps 20%.

If it were only that simple.

Already, there are numerous reports of engine failure due to ethanol blends that are higher than

Superlattice Power, Inc. (SLAT.OB) Tops Battery History

QualityStocks (May 27th, 2009) Writes:

Superlattice Power, Inc. is all about improving on a concept that has a history of well over two centuries, yet a concept that may be vital to future world development. Many historians would argue that it began in 1748, when none other than Benjamin Franklin first used the word “battery”. He was using it to describe a series of glass and lead plates he had developed, which, when charged, fired off a substantial spark, much like a battery of guns. But it was the early Italian physicist Alessandro Volta who, in 1800, developed the first practical electric cell, a collection of zinc and copper plates able to produce a continuous flow of electricity.

By 1859, French inventor Gaston Plante had developed the lead acid battery, still used in cars today, including some all-electric cars. In fact, electric cars became the first major market
