Mexico Sets Spectrum Auction Rules – Analyst Blog

The Mexican government has finally announced the bidding rules to kick off the upcoming wireless spectrum (radio bandwidth) auction in the country. The Mexican telecom regulator Cofetel released details of radio-electric spectrum to be offered to the qualified bidders through two separate auctions. However, no specific date of the auction has been announced.  In the first auction, Cofetel will offer nine blocks of frequencies ranging from 1850 to 1990 megahertz (MHz) across eight of Mexico’s nine wireless operating regions including the capital Mexico City. The regulator will also offer seven blocks of spectrums between 1710 MHz and 2170 MHz band in the second auction which will cover all nine operating regions.  Technical specification of the two acutions will be released between Jan 6 and Jan 8, 2010. Haemonetics Reports Strong Results – Analyst Blog

Haemonetics Corporation (HAE) reported strong results for the second quarter of fiscal 2010. Earnings per share were 69 cents, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 65 cents and the year-ago earnings of 58 cents. Sales Total revenues in the reported quarter were $157 million, increasing 8% year over year. Excluding a favorable foreign currency translation (FX), revenues increased 6% year over year. On a geographic basis, U.S. sales represented roughly 48% of total sales and increased 12.5% year over year. International sales increased 3.5% year over year. Plasma disposables revenues increased 19% year over year to $59 million. Growth can be attributed to higher global demand for plasma collections, higher pricing and implementation of several long-term contracts with customers in the reported quarter. Platelet disposables revenues increased 3% year over year to $37 million due to the company’s strong distribution network in different key markets....

Russia’s incumbent telecom carrier Mobile TeleSystems (MBT) released its 2009 outlook yesterday. The company has lifted its capital expenditure (CapEx) guidance to $1.8 billion from $1.5 billion as per the previous guidance.   This increase is primarily due to the expected growth in capital spending in Central Asian markets and appreciation of the ruble against the US dollar. While the revised CapEx for 2009 is lower than $2.2 billion spent in 2008, as a percentage of sales it still remains at 22%. In contrast, the company’s archrival VimpelCom (VIP) is expected to spend 12%-15% of sales in 2009.   Mobile TeleSystems plans to invest approximately $450 million in 2009 in 3G network infrastructure and expansion of its proprietary distribution network. As expected, Nokia (NOK) finally confirmed its entry into the netbook segment. The netbook named “Nokia Booklet 3G" will have a 10 inch screen, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and 3G Wireless access.
