Joining Dell will be fellow S&P 500 members Big Lots (BIG), Medtronic (MDT), Novell (NOVL), Staples (SPLS) and Tiffany & Co. (TIF). A total of 76 companies are confirmed to release results.

Given the surprisingly strong July existing home sales report, all eyes will be on Wednesday's new home sales report. Specifically, economists will want to see that new home sales also rose for a fourth consecutive month.

Daktronics Inc. (DAKT) plunged more than 13% so far today after reporting worse-than-expected fourth-quarter results.

Furthermore, the electronic scoreboards supplier expects a decline in sales and earnings for the current fiscal year.

The company earned 1 cent per share in the quarter, which was 8 cents short of analysts' expectations. DAKT experienced an 85% decrease in orders for its international business while orders in its commercial business dipped 62%.

Net sales slipped almost 6% to $121.8 million.

For the full fiscal year, EPS reached 64 cents, which fell short of the consensus by 8 cents.

One analyst out of 4 reduced expectations in the last 30 days for the fiscal year ending April 2010, sending the consensus estimate lower by 3 cents to 52 cents per share.
