pGlobal oil demand is not going to “plummet.” And for the emFT/em to say so is just plain silly, if not irresponsible. OK, I know. There’s an old saying that they teach in journalism schools. “You have to sell newspapers.” But this declaration by the FT highlights the perils of letting a headline-writer do your thinking for you. It’s what I call “arguing a screaming conclusion.” And a wrong conclusion at that./p

Shares of GameStop Corp (Public, NYSE:GME) reached a high of $63.77 near the end of 2007 before crashing down to current levels of $40 a share. With the lineup of games coming out this year, not to mention the release of GTA4 in Q2, Gamestop shares could prove to be a lucrative investment at current levels. Let’s take a look at the lineup of games coming out in the latter half of 2008:

Although not of immediate concern, some of the bullish percents are about to enter bear market (but not bull market) top territory. If January lows represent the start of a bear market then these breadth indicators should top soon. If the current rally is a continuation of the cyclical bull market then there is room for another 15-20% of gain (perhaps as much as 50% for the Nasdaq Bullish Percents).

How this impacts on the market remains to be seen, but the likely outcome would be a negative divergence between breadth indicators and the market; indices make new highs as bullish percents fall. Time will tell.

I'm traveling to D.C. so there will be no update tomorrow.
