Working Capital Model Investing – The Process

Steve Selengut (December 29th, 2008) Writes:

Most people enter the investment process tip first. They hear something, grab an idea from a popular blog, accept a Cramerism or some motley foolishness, and think that they are making investment decisions. Rarely, will the right-now, instant-gratification, Internet-generation speculator think in terms that go beyond tomorrow’s breaking news.

It just doesn’t work that way in the long run. Investing takes place in an uncertain environment with at least three important cycles working their way through time at different rates of speed. Each should have an impact on investor decision-making. More often than not, short-term thinking and impulse decision-making are ineffective long-term investment strategies—

Today, in the midst of a cyclical “perfect storm”, how many Wall Streeters have the cold-blooded temperament required to focus on anything other than dwindling market values, depressing economic news, and income securities that just don’t …

CNBC Bonus Bucks Trivia: On June 5, Cramer sang the praises of Yum! Brands. How high did he say the stock would go?

William A. Trent (June 16th, 2008) Writes:

On June 5, Cramer sang the praises of Yum! Brands. How high did he say the stock would go?

While other restaurant stocks are foundering thanks to soaring oil prices and raw costs, YUM (YUM) cnbc_quoteComponent_init_getData("YUM","WSODQ_COMPONENT_YUM_ID0E2F15839609","WSODQ","true","ID0E2F15839609","off","false"); is capitalizing on new business in overseas. Cramer said the stock “blows through” $45.

CNBC Bonus Bucks Trivia: In “The Surest Sign It’s Time to Sell” (Feb. 19) Cramer gave timeless stock advice. What was his “rock solid” sell sign?

William A. Trent (June 12th, 2008) Writes:

There are plenty of indicators out there that mean you should sell a stock, but there are few that are as rock solid as this one: whenever you see a stock that’s being heavily shorted and also heavily hyped at the same time, you should be selling that thing nine ways from Sunday, Cramer says.

CNBC Bonus Bucks Trivia: In Cramer’s May 15 Sell Block segment, “The Newest Mortgage Offenders,” why did the Mad Money guru slam IndyMac?

William A. Trent (June 10th, 2008) Writes:

In Cramer’s May 15 Sell Block segment, “The Newest Mortgage Offenders,” why did the Mad Money guru slam IndyMac?

IndyMac’s bad loans are skyrocketing, the company keeps diluting shareholders as shares outstanding continue to build up. And it isn’t even saying it can be profitable this year as it remains heavily exposed to the worst areas of the California market, which make up nearly 50% of its holdings.

At one time, IndyMac (IMB) made my Small Cap Watch List (Track at Marketocracy). But that was a long time ago. These days it doesn’t even make it past my initial screens.

CNBC Bonus Bucks Trivia: On Friday, Cramer warned that “safety stocks aren’t safe” now. But he did say one stock was “about to rip.” Which?

William A. Trent (June 9th, 2008) Writes:

On Friday, Cramer warned that “safety stocks aren’t safe” now. But he did say one stock was “about to rip.” Which?

Recently IPO’d Intrepid Potash (IPI) hit a 52-week high today, and “I want to buy it still,” Cramer said. “I think IPI’s about to rip.”

IPI doesn’t make the cut for the models I use, so I have little to add other than “recently IPO’d” stocks should have a fairly easy time setting 52-week highs.

CNBC Bonus Bucks Trivia: In “Top Videos: Hottest-Selling Funds, Lehman & More” what type of meat does Cramer reference?

William A. Trent (June 6th, 2008) Writes:

In “Top Videos: Hottest-Selling Funds, Lehman & More” what type of meat does Cramer reference?

Stop Trading, Listen to Cramer!

“We’re in a situation right now that if you wanted good chicken, that you weren’t worried about because you like chicken ‘cause your diet is now pro-protein and you’re in China, the good housekeeping seal of approval is Kentucky Fried Chicken. And, Yum Brands (YUM) is moving big there… “

In the models I follow, Lehman (LEH) looks good for return potential, but its earnings momentum, price momentum and  free cash flow are lousy.

Yum Brands (YUM), on the other hand, looks pretty good. It earns high marks for earnings quality, price momentum and return potential.

Goldman Sachs: Gasoline Not Driving Oil Price – Oil Going to $150-$200

Trader Mark (May 6th, 2008) Writes:
Normally, I don't care for predictions but considering this was the fellow who in 2005 said their could be a "super spike" in crude, let's see what he has to say (I am on record as saying a "World of Shortages" theme combined with Western governments flooding the world with fiat paper can only combine to ultimately create higher prices). These are the first people (along with Cramer - have to give him kudos) who finally are realizing that the world does not revolve around the United States of Subprime; a position I've been advocating for a long while. The quicker we move away from our country-centric views, the better. U.S. gasoline is no longer the leading fundamental driving oil markets, according to a report penned by Arjun Murti of Goldman Sachs Tuesday. Murti who famously predicted the dawn of the “super spike” back in March 2005, says ...
