United Technologies Corporation (UTX) announced George David, 67, will retire as Chairman of the Board of Directors at the end of the year, concluding 34 years of service with UTC, including 14 years as Chief Executive Officer. Louis Chenevert, 52, President and Chief Executive Officer, will succeed David as Chairman, effective Jan 1, 2010, following his election by the UTC board. David will remain a consultant and adviser to the corporation for 2010.  During George’s tenure, notable changes were UTC's global expansion, with international revenues growing from 25% to more than 60% today, and its focus on process and research disciplines.  Since David took the helm in 1994, profit and revenue soared, with much of the success attributed to his hard-charging style. Chaparral Energy and United Refining Energy Corp. (URX) Announce Merger

Yesterday, privately-owned Chaparral Energy, Inc. and publicly held United Refining Energy Corp. jointly announced that they have entered into a merger agreement. The combined company will be named Chaparral Energy, Inc. and will remain trading on the NYSE Amex until approval of a planned application to transfer listing to the NYSE. Once transferred, the company will use “CPR” as its symbol. The proposed transaction is valued at approximately $1.8 billion, and is expected to close by December 11, 2009.

Chaparral’s senior management team, including Chairman and CEO Mark A. Fischer; Joseph O. Evans, CFO; and Robert W. Kelly II, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, will continue to lead the company through this merger. John A. Catsimatidis, URX’s current CEO and Chairman, will act as the Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of the combined company.

PokerTek, Inc. (PTEK) Raises Equity Capital in Private Placement

PokerTek, Inc. raised $500,000 in a private placement of stock with several different accredited investors. The company sold a total of 686,090 shares at $0.76. Lyle Berman, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of PokerTek, purchased nearly half of this private placement.

PokerTek raised capital in August 2009 when ICP Electronics purchased 565,000 shares at $0.85, bringing the total net proceeds for the company to nearly $1 million. PokerTek reported a net loss in its second quarter of $1.6 million, or $0.15 per share. Revenues fell to $1.5 million, down 60% from the same quarter in 2008.

Mark Roberson, the acting CEO of PokerTek, said, “Our bottom line results and operating cash flow improved as we continued to streamline the business and reduce overhead. Our revenues reflect lower international PokerPro hardware sales and lower sales to the traditional coin-op distribution channel.”

Axial Vector Energy Corp. (AXVC.PK) Appoints New Chairman of the Board of Directors

Axial Vector Energy Corporation announced this morning that Mr. Samuel Higgins has been appointed to the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors, filling a vacancy resultant from the departure of Mr. Ahmed Khalifa. As previously stated in AVEC’s SEC Form 8K on June 23, 2009, Mr. Khalifa resigned when Global Operations purchased all of the shares held by Mr. Khalifa’s firm, Emirates International Capital Advisory. However, the press release noted that Mr. Khalifa remains a private shareholder of AVEC.

Regarding the appointment, AVEC President and CEO Sanjai Chhaunker commented, “We are extraordinarily pleased to have persuaded Mr. Higgins to return from retirement. Sam is the firm’s founder, one of the largest shareholders and former CEO.
