Wider Loss for Alnylam – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (November 12th, 2009) Writes:

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ALNY) reported a third-quarter loss of 22 cents per share, below the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 24 cents but wider than the year-ago loss of 7 cents. The higher loss in the quarter is attributable to higher stock based compensation and legal expenses.

Revenues for the quarter came in at $24.2 million as against $25.7 million in the year-ago quarter, down 5.8%. Research and development costs increased 5% to $23.2 million primarily because of increased costs for clinical and pre-clinical programs coupled with increased R&D headcount to support Alnylam’s alliances and development programs.    General and administrative expenses increased 56% to $10.7 million. The increase in general and administrative spend was primarily driven by higher professional service fees in association with business activities, primarily legal activities, coupled with increased stock based compensation expenses.   Alnylam exited the quarter with $453.5 million in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities

Toyota to Shutter NUMMI – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (August 28th, 2009) Writes:
Toyota Motors (TM) has revealed that it will close down the New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI) plant in Fremont, California, which had been operated with General Motors since 1984. The move is a part of the company’s plan to reduce worldwide capacity by 700,000 to 1 million vehicles. NUMMI, opened by General Motors in 1962, was shut down in 1982 on the back of operational inefficiency. However, the plant was reopened two years later when it became a 50/50 joint venture between General Motors and Toyota. NUMMI was a remarkable joint venture in America’s as well as Toyota’s history. The joint venture taught Americans about the famous Japanese "lean manufacturing system" (focused on just-in-time delivery) through NUMMI, and Toyota took its first step in the U.S. using GM’s supply lines. NUMMI has produced Corolla and Tacoma for Toyota and Pontiac Vibe for GM. However, GM ...

I am back …

Claus Vistesen (August 23rd, 2009) Writes:

With fear of stating the obvious,  I have returned from Greece and baring any unforseen events, regular services shall return at Alpha.Sources within the next few days. I am preparing a bumper piece on a the theoretical link between export dependency and ageing (very long and very wonkish!), so stay tuned.

Greece naturally was wonderful and although we lived close to Athens we were not affected by the fires which now, sadly, seems to be almost out of control.

I managed to thoroughly relax and did not even get to read up on that textbook I had brought. This I imagine is a good sign :). I did however read David Leavitt. I finished the Indian Clerk and Arkansas. Leavitt is an excellent writer and the Indian Cleark is a fabulous, if sometime very windy, tale whose characters are explored with an almost excessive hunger for detail by Leavitt.

The fact
