Grigory Pasko: The Gulag Unconcious

Robert Amsterdam (November 25th, 2009) Writes:
mag112509.jpg

The Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung wrote : "He who has achieved a perception of reality is inevitably solitary" [This is a translation of the Russian version of Jung's essay "The Spiritual Problem of Modern Man". The standard English version reads somewhat differently: "The man whom we can with justice call 'modern' is solitary"--Trans.].

I first read these lines sitting in jail as a political prisoner of the Russian state.  In the gulag reality is somehow quickly perceived, literally with the skin. And also - by the state of health. I did not meet people who after jail would remain healthy for

FDA Panel Seeks ABthrax Data – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (October 30th, 2009) Writes:
A panel of experts of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently asked for additional data to judge the efficacy of Human Genome Sciences Inc.’s (HGSI) anthrax infection treatment ABthrax (raxibacumab) compared to existing anti-bacterial drugs.  The panel of experts voted 17 to 6, with one abstention, that the company should submit more evidence on whether adding ABthrax to older drugs is beneficial for anthrax treatment.  Data from studies had revealed that antibiotic medicines used alone were highly effective against anthrax, thereby raising questions about the added benefit of ABthrax. Furthermore, the drug appeared to be effective when used with antibiotics in rabbits and monkeys. The same panel also voted in favor of using data from the animal studies to predict how the drug will work in humans. However, more data is required for the purpose. Last week, the FDA expressed concerns regarding some ...

HGSI Drug Under FDA Review – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (October 28th, 2009) Writes:
Recently, Human Genome Sciences Inc. (HGSI) suffered a setback when the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) questioned the efficacy of its drug ABthrax (raxibacumab), meant for treating anthrax infection.  The FDA accepted that the medication was more effective than a placebo in treating anthrax exposure in animals. However, it was unsure as to how effective the treatment would be for humans since the reliability of human data is doubtful. Though the drug appeared to be effective when used with antibiotics in rabbits and monkeys, animal studies do not always predict success in humans.  Later today, an advisory panel from the FDA is scheduled to meet to decide whether the benefits of the drug outweigh the risks for treating deadly infections caused by anthrax inhalation.  As a reminder, Human Genome had filed a Biologics License Application with the FDA in May 2009. The company is ...

Novartis Acquires Antibiotic Rights – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (October 9th, 2009) Writes:
Today, Novartis (NVS) acquired exclusive worldwide rights to PTK 0796, a broad spectrum antibiotic from a privately held company, Paratek Pharmaceuticals. The drug is meant for the treatment of infections caused by drug-resistant bacteria such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and multi-drug resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae (MDRSP). PTK 0796, being a broad spectrum antibiotic, could be used as a single agent against a range of bacteria unlike other antibiotics, which may have to be used in combination. Although we are yet to know the exact financial terms of the deal, Novartis will be making an upfront payment to Paratek in addition to future milestone payments and royalties. Both the companies will share the costs and responsibilities related to the drug’s development. A phase III trial for the drug is being conducted for the treatment of complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSSI). Clinical studies conducted on more ...

Caraco Pharmaceutical Laboratories Inc. (CPD) Gets Back on Track in Generic Drug Market

QualityStocks (September 30th, 2009) Writes:

Companies often stumble in certain areas only to come back stronger and more profitable as issues are addressed and overcome. In certain areas, this particular type of problem is more easily overcome then in others, especially when the profit potential is exceedingly large. The generic drug market is one such area and one that will be extremely profitable in coming years.

Caraco Pharmaceutical Laboratories Inc., a generic drug manufacturer, works to provide generic drugs to a host of mass merchant pharmacy outlets, warehouses, wholesalers and distributors. The company offers a wide array of generic prescription drugs targeted at main stream diseases.

Although the pharma sector has been finding solid successes of late and banked solid capital reserves, there is certain trepidation with regard to product going “off-patent” in the relative near-term. There are many new products to fill this “off-patent” issue, but many products that will leave the patent scenario have
