A-Power Energy Generation (APWR) Up 15% on Announcement of Completion of Largest Wind Turbine Plant in China

Trader Mark (July 9th, 2008) Writes:
Ok we're having a good day... another of our names is flying - that's 3 of them @ 15%+. Again this is not NEW news to blog readers and this stock was beaten to a pulp in this panic - I actually added a touch first thing this morning to take A-Power Energy Generation (APWR) to a 3.1% stake. This is a good company WITHOUT the wind business, but with the birth of this new line, it's going to be a lot more than good in my opinion. [Jun 27: New Position in A-Power Energy Generation Systems to Create Alternative Energy Mini Basket]A-Power Energy Generation Systems, Ltd. (NASDAQ:APWR - News) ("A-Power"), announced today that it has completed the construction of the first phase of its wind turbine production facility ...

Fuel Systems Solutions (FSYS) Up 15% on Upgrade

Trader Mark (July 9th, 2008) Writes:
I don't have details so if anyone has access to this I'd be interested in reading the reasoning/research - since it's a small cap company there is very little coverage. I'd like to take credit for it with my article on Pickens yesterday but apparently it's an upgrade from firm Broadpoint Capital.Broadpoint Capital upgrades Fuel Systems Solutions (Nasdaq: FSYS) from Neutral to Buy with a $36 price target.I truly believe we have the correct stocks - we just have such an awful market, they are not able to show their colors. It's a shame the rest of the economy is in such shambles.[Jul 2: Buying Fuel Systems Solutions (FSYS) for the 3rd Piece of my Alternative Energy Basket]Long Fuel Systems Solutions in fund and personal account ...

QualityStocks (July 8th, 2008) Writes:

Hybrid Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: HYBR), an emerging leader in the development and marketing of lithium-powered products worldwide, is extremely proud to have Emmy and Golden Globe nominee, Alan Thicke, as a special guest participating at their North Carolina research facility.

The Canadian-born actor and musician won fame through his role as Jason Seaver, a stay-at-home dad on the ABC television series Growing Pains (1985-92), which was translated into eight languages and broadcast from China to Spain. His reputation for integrity stems from this portrayal, and resulted in his being honored in 2007 as the Canadian Performer of the Year.

Thicke, who refers to himself as a “Baby Boomer consumer”, admits he has been part of the problem surrounding vehicle use and global warming, and now wants to be part of the solution. Hybrid Technologies, with its lithium-powered electric vehicles, provides that opportunity by delivering a vehicle that reduces emissions

Inescapable Oil

Condor Options (June 12th, 2008) Writes:

For mental health reasons, we hardly ever watch CNBC anymore. But glancing at it this afternoon, at one point we saw three separate live graphics displaying the price of crude oil. So much screen space was taken up by live oil trackers, there wasn’t enough space left to show the chart of whatever alternative energy company they were pumping.

Was oil making a new high today? Did the U.S. unilaterally attack another country?  Did someone accidentally double-park in the Strait of Hormuz?  No.

If you feel like it’s been impossible to get away from oil and oil-related stories for too many years to count, that’s because you’re right. The CXO blog has a nice report up on a momentum-based sector investing strategy, and as they explain, the primary reason the strategy massively outperforms the S&P over the

Zoltek is Alternative Energy Wind Power Investing

Stockmasters Staff (May 23rd, 2008) Writes:
Companies, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZOLT) is a gem in the Wind alternative energy industry. But it's high 26% short interest and investigation by SEC for accounting errors has dropped this stock 35% since it's high last August. So if Wind is another answer to fossil fuels and high oil prices, should you be thinking about ZOLT? First, the Department of Energy said last week forecast that the industry might deliver 20% of the nation’s electricity by 2030. It generates less than 1% now. Then famed oilman T. Boone Pickens ordered 667 turbines from General Electric (NYSE:GE) to outfit the wind empire he envisions on the Texas Panhandle (GE is now ...

LDK Solar (LDK) Founder Starts Thin Film Company - Competition for First Solar (FSLR)?

Trader Mark (May 9th, 2008) Writes:
Intriguing news! Details still appear sketchy but this young gun CEO seems like one of those guys you really want to hitch your wagon too based on where he has been, so early in life. I'd like to see details of the technology before commenting further.. and I'd like to note this news has nothing to do with LDK Solar itself... it's just the same founder. Just in case Best Solar IPOs in the US I better start watching it; it will be interesting to hear how far along they are and what First Solar (FSLR) management thinks of this (they do have a huge head start)... That said, all these huge initiatives plays into my thesis that we are going to have a major industry shakeout and (shorter term) gluts somewhere in the 2010-2012 time frame. [Jan 3: The Long Term in Solar] Anytime ...
