How to Profit from Immunotherapy Regenerative Medicine

Contrarian Profits (October 8th, 2009) Writes:

The procedure has been called “one of the most barbaric mistakes ever perpetrated by mainstream medicine.” Back when medicine was highly primitive, the process involved shoving an ice pick-like instrument between the upper eyelid and the eye in hopes of severing certain nerves of the frontal lobe.

This was the early method of performing a lobotomy. And just 50 years ago, they were carried out not only on severely mentally ill people, but also on moody teenagers, or housewives who’d lost their enthusiasm for domestic work. Seriously. Over 40,000 Americans were lobotomized, often with catastrophic results.

Thankfully, they’re a thing of the past. But it made me think about how medicine has changed over the years and what practices were once acceptable. Just a few hundred years ago, for example, you wouldn’t have questioned the “doctor” for putting leeches on you any more than you do today for prescribing an antibiotic.

ISTA’s Eye Drug Shows Success – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (August 26th, 2009) Writes:
ISTA Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ISTA) yesterday announced that its once-per-day eye drug Xibrom QD displayed successful results in a late-stage study. The multi-center, randomized, double-masked, parallel-group study included 299 subjects who underwent cataract operation in one eye.   ISTA revealed that Xibrom QD eye drops were significantly better than placebo at curing eye inflammation 15 days post cataract surgery. The drug was also successful in eliminating eye pain one day following surgery. No serious adverse events were observed and the safety profile appeared to be consistent with the company’s twice a day Xibrom version, which has already hit the market.   The U.S. marketing rights to Xibrom, which is used for the treatment of ocular inflammation following cataract surgery, were acquired by ISTA in 2002 and the product was launched in the U.S. in 2005. As per IMS data, sales in the first half of 2009 were $33.8 million....
