Initial Claims Head Back Up

Instead of spending less than they were earning, people relied on asset appreciation -- in both equities and real estate. As the appreciation turned to depreciation, people were left with very little to fall back on. If the house is

GRO Misses Filing Deadline Again – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (June 25th, 2009) Writes:
Agria Misses Another Filing Deadline This morning Agria Corp. (GRO) announced that they would be unable to complete their 20-F annual report for the period ending December 31, 2009 by the required June 30, 2009 filing date.Agria attributed the delay to their inability to complete their financial statements due to two ongoing investigations being conducted by independent firms. The investigations surround the valuation of sheep and date tree assets, the authenticity of certain sales contracts, bank statements and tax invoices of P3A, and the verification of titles of farm land which were leased by P3A in 2008.The company noted that allegations of a former employee of P3A were what prompted the investigation into the sheep and tree assets as well as the sales contracts, bank statements and tax invoices.Agria mentioned that the land title investigation, ...

World Bank Calls China: A “Ray of Hope”

Tony Sagami (April 14th, 2009) Writes:
The Dow has been on a mini-roll. Therefore, most investors are thrilled to see battered stock portfolios recover even a smidgen of their massive losses. The problem is that these investors aren’t paying attention to what’s happening elsewhere around the globe. And they may be missing out on the opportunity of the decade! That’s because the morsels of good economic news coming out of the U.S. are completely overshadowing what’s happening in Asia. China: A Bright Spot in the Region And the Global Economy Just last week, a new report from the World Bank painted a very pretty picture about the economies of China, the world’s third-biggest economy, and its Asian neighbors …...

Agria Sales to Fall – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (April 8th, 2009) Writes:
Expect Agria's Sales to Fall in 2009 Agria Corp's (GRO) financial performance through the first nine months has been hampered by significantly lower seed prices and a disruption in production of sheep-breeding products. We would not categorize the cause of either to be inherent fundamental issues that would be expected to affect sales for the long-term.Sheep-breeding revenue should continue to rebound in the fourth quarter and into 2009. While corn seed prices will likely remain depressed until the excess inventory in the market is consumed, we do not expect this to be a protracted event.Of greater concern is the global economic slowdown and how it will affect sales, profitability and cash position in 2009 and possibly into 2010. Arrangements such as upfront payments to suppliers to fund the growing and harvesting season (which is then recouped when Agria buys the product) leaves the ...

Agra a Hold-Rated Chinese AgriCo – Analyst Blog

Zacks Market Commentaries (January 15th, 2009) Writes:
Agria Corp. (GRO) is a Chinese-based agricultural company involved in the research and development, and production and sale of three different types of upstream agricultural products; corn seeds, sheep breeding products and seedling products. The company's sales should rebound but remain below levels in the near-term due to depressed seed prices and global economic weakness. Longer term, revenue and earnings growth should be robust but we are concerned about significant governance and transparency issues. We are initiating coverage of the shares with Hold recommendation and a $2.00 price target.Read the full analyst report on GRO "GRO" Free Stock Analysis: Buy?
