Superlattice Power, Inc. (SLAT.OB): A “Green” Power Company Currently Under the Radar

QualityStocks (August 20th, 2009) Writes:

Superlattice Power Inc. is a development stage technology company that is focusing its resources and efforts on the development and marketing of batteries for electric-powered vehicles and products. The company is developing the next generation lithium-powered batteries which will have a wide range of applications.

Superlattice Power has made considerable progress in advancing its next generation lithium-powered batteries. The company has developed a cathode material for these batteries and thermal management system for EV battery packs. This cathode material has a capacity nearly 1.5 times greater than the present commercially available cathode materials.

Superlattice would seem to be a company in the right place at the right time. After all, the Obama Administration recently earmarked $2.4 billion in stimulus grants to jump-start the electric vehicle (EV) industry. With $1.5 billion of these funds going to advanced battery projects, Superlattice is perfectly positioned.

Battery Technology is the Future

Michael E. Brisky (July 31st, 2009) Writes:
I mentioned Chinese battery manufacturer Advanced Battery Technologies (a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=ABAT"ABAT/a) back in May when I noticed their CEO buy a big block of shares. I don't typically get too heavy into Chinese companies due to the lack of reliable information we get about them, but I do like this one. They are into lithium-ion batteries that are used in computers, smart phones, etc. They also just introduced batteries for ZAP scooters. (a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/news/ZAP-Receives-First-Shipment-iw-2911607575.html?x=0amp;.v=1"Press Release/a).br /br /Also saw an interesting a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601109amp;sid=amaKePJpsGCk"tidbit from Bloomberg /atoday about Buffett and company making an investment in Chinese hybrid carmaker BYD. Its worth checking out. Also, Charlie Munger had this to say, “Battery technology is one of the most important subjects affecting the technological future of man." Amen to that.br /br /I'd like to buy ABAT under $4.00 if I can.br /br /br /br /pimg id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5364641822994041714" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 382px; CURSOR: ...

Earnings/Follow Up Commentary

Michael E. Brisky (May 12th, 2009) Writes:
I wanted to follow up on the earnings results and subsequent market reaction of a couple of names I was watching. br /br /First, Advanced Battery Technologies (a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=ABAT"ABAT/a). I've never held any positions in this, and it caught my eye purely because of last weeks 1 million share buy by their CEO, just before earnings. The market was thinking the same thing I was apparently. The stock shot up to end the week, and after the results, it sold off. The earnings were fine, but no blowout like many thought possible. I do like their product (lithium ion battery sales-mostly in China), and their balance sheet (solid amount of cash for a company of its size). On the technical side, there is little support near current levels, and the stock could fall a bit more. I may look at buying it if ...

Earnings/Monday Ideas

Michael E. Brisky (May 11th, 2009) Writes:
A couple of earnings releases I'm watching today:br /br /-Ormat Technologies (a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=oraamp;.yficrumb=IUlUc7b9bTK"ORA/a) reports this morning. I haven't seen anything out yet, but I'll do a post once I see those results. I'm looking to Ormat for an outlook on the geothermal industry, as they are a major player there.br /br /-Advanced Battery Technologies (a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=ABATamp;.yficrumb=IUlUc7b9bTK"ABAT/a) reports after the close. This is a stock that I haven't followed, and quite frankly haven't done a ton of research on. I was intrigued by their CEO buying 1 million shares last week and the stock ramped up going into this release. Be careful here, as their is a lot of risk trying to play earnings, but I'll definitely be interested to see their results.br /br /-Granite City Food and Brewery (a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=GCFBamp;.yficrumb=IUlUc7b9bTK"GCFB/a) announces after the bell. This is a stock I've watched for some time. ...

World Bank Calls China: A “Ray of Hope”

Tony Sagami (April 14th, 2009) Writes:
The Dow has been on a mini-roll. Therefore, most investors are thrilled to see battered stock portfolios recover even a smidgen of their massive losses. The problem is that these investors aren’t paying attention to what’s happening elsewhere around the globe. And they may be missing out on the opportunity of the decade! That’s because the morsels of good economic news coming out of the U.S. are completely overshadowing what’s happening in Asia. China: A Bright Spot in the Region And the Global Economy Just last week, a new report from the World Bank painted a very pretty picture about the economies of China, the world’s third-biggest economy, and its Asian neighbors …...
