Volcom Inc. (VLCM) Continues to Carry a Large Cash Balance as it Works Toward 10 New Retail Doors by 2008-end

QualityStocks (June 11th, 2008) Writes:

Although the retail picture for many apparel companies has been a bit less encouraging then many would like, some have been riding a wave that has yet to crest. Playing to the tween and teen markets always seems to find that little extra disposable income for the shopper to stay in style. A company that can tap into this demographic is one that will find many sources of “way-cool” profit.

Volcom Inc., a retail brick and mortar/online marketer of young people’s apparel, works to serve an apparel lifestyle niche oriented toward board sports such as surfing, skate boarding and snowboarding. The company was founded in 1990 and has since grown to begin offering its products through various channels in Europe. The company made its first acquisition at the end of 2007 and currently carries $93 million in cash (and very little debt) on its books. Yearend figures for 2007 showed sales

CNBC Bonus Bucks Trivia: In June 5’s “Web Extra: Suspicious Stock” which Fast Money trader wanted to share his/her investment doubts?

William A. Trent (June 9th, 2008) Writes:

In June 5’s “Web Extra: Suspicious Stock” which Fast Money trader wanted to share his/her investment doubts?

We ran out of time on TV but Guy Adami wants you to know about this stock. In Thursday’s Web Extra find out what happened that’s making him suspicious.

The stock in question was Nucor (NUE), and Adami felt that the company’s guidance increase may signal an acquisition. Nucor shows up in the models I follow for having a particularly high accrual ratio, which is often a signal of poor earnings quality. It also has strong price momentum, which can be both a blessing and a curse for investors.

Blockbuster’s stock valued at nearly $11?

Stockmasters Staff (May 12th, 2008) Writes:
Wow, bold move here. Tony Wible of Citi Investment Research said the potential Blockbuster Inc.'s (NYSE:BBI) acquisition of Circuit City (NYSE:CC) deal could provide BBI with increased revenue and cost savings. He estimates the transaction could lift the value of Blockbuster's stock to nearly $11, which would be a 287% gain from today's BBI price. Shares of BBI are up 6% on the news this morning and trading around $2.84.  Here's the lowdown via Forbes.com: Video-rental chain Blockbuster had previously announced a takeover ...

Microsoft abandons bid for Yahoo.

Vlada Kynsky (May 4th, 2008) Writes:
Finally Microsoft (MSFT) stepped back from acquisition discussion with Yahoo (YHOO). The price $37 per share was just too much.Who is winner and who is looser?Microsoft will not have additional complications to fulfill dividends plan to its shareholders. They will be focused on their core software business. But Internet business, it is still lost game for Microsoft.Yahoo continues talks about partnership with Google (GOOG). And maybe there is potential deal with AOL (TWX) or News Corporation (NWS). Definitely Yahoo shares will be under selling pressure on Monday. Last quarter nothing exciting and company is loosing market share against its rival Google.Google is winning the game. Still there is not any other power to cut their market share.http://stockweb.blogspot.com/atom.xml

CVS Caremark (CVS) closed at $40.93 on April 25, 2008, giving this stock pick a gain of $9.77 or 31.4% since posting. I do not own any shares or options of this stock.

On January 31, 2008, CVS Caremark reported 4th quarter 2007 results. Revenue for the quarter increased 81% to $21.9 billion for the quarter ended December 29, 2007. This large increase was attributed to the Caremark purchase which closed in March, …
