Canadian telecom networking company Nortel has today, filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States.

The company has been faced with quite a few challenges over the past eight years and this bankruptcy filing was an inevitability that the company has been pushing off for quite a while.

The U.S. traded shares, which closed at $0.32 in regular trading yesterday, are down $0.25 in pre-market trading.
