The U.S. economy has been in a sticky situation for quite some time, highlighted by the crumbling of the housing market last year. International investors taking advantage of the weak dollar have helped keep the market above water. More and more investors are relying on international exposure, capital and customers as they fight to stay afloat.

LookSmart Ltd. is one such company to benefit from overseas attention. LookSmart is a pay-per-click (PPC) search advertising network and technology solutions provider. The company today announced that a boost in international traffic was responsible for 14.7 percent of its revenue in the second quarter of 2008.

During the second quarter, LookSmart extended its customers’ Internet reach to users in Canada, Australia/New Zealand and the UK. The company utilized geo-targeting features in its AdCenter technology platform to offer this opportunity. The company recently began testing in Germany to feel out the growth of its advertising network.

“Through the AdCenter platform, LookSmart’s distribution partners are able to monetize their international search queries and advertisers are able to target down to the city-level in Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom,” Ted West, CEO and president of LookSmart stated in the press release. “Our publishers and search advertisers trust LookSmart to offer growth opportunities like internationalization through our proven, independent ad serving platform.”

To deal with international endeavors, LookSmart appointed Bill Meyer as director of international business development. Meyer recently served as the director of sales for ePALS, and prior to that as director of client relations for Webloyalty and as vice president of marketing for eCommerce Solutions, and will now use his online media expertise to assist LookSmarts business plans.

“LookSmart has produced sound growth internationally and has emerged as the search advertising network to watch,” Meyer stated. “They have assembled a great team of people and my goal is to add more advertising and publishing customers to the LookSmart Network.”
