Evidence of Multi-Color Corporation’s work is all around you and you probably don’t even realize it. Headquartered in Sharonville, Ohio, they are a provider of innovative product decorating solutions and packaging services. They produce in-mold label and heat transfer labels for an assortment of products consumers use daily. They are also a major manufacturer of high-quality cut-and-stack and pressure sensitive labels and shrink sleeves. Their focus is on meeting all the labeling needs of a broad range of customers.
Multi-Color Corporation trades on the NASDAQ as part of the Business Services sector. Founded in 1916 they have over 650 customers in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Central and South America. They provide a wide range of services from product graphics to product placement on retailers’ shelves. They help consumer product companies, national retailers, and container manufacturers to present their products in the best possible way on a global basis. Their labels add visual appeal and help the marketing of name-brand liquid detergents and laundry-care products, household cleaners, juices, and a host of other products.
The company also has approximately 650 employees and 7 manufacturing facilities in the United States. They support over 330 major product brands worldwide. Multi-Color’s sales for 2007 were $222.5M. Their customers include manufacturers of health and beauty, food and beverage, personal care, automotive, and household consumer brands. Their corporate strategy for growth is to focus on those segments of the label market that are growing at a yearly rate of 10 to 12 percent. The label market is currently $9B worldwide. Their strategy is also to make acquisitions that can further their technical processes and increase their presence in the high-end consumer-product label market.
The company’s Packaging Services operations are a supplier of promotional packaging, assembly, fulfillment, and decoration services. Multi-Color Corporation continues to innovate with new technologies to provide for the packaging and labeling needs of their clients. Multi-Color introduced in-mold labels (IML) domestically 20 years ago. IML labels are labels applied to plastic containers as they form in a mold. Innovations such as this and others are keeping Multi-Color Corporation a leader in the industry.
Multi-Color Corporation recently announced financial results for the fourth quarter and full year ended March 31, 2008, compared with the same period a year ago. They achieved their tenth consecutive year of record revenue from Continuing Operations during fiscal 2008 of $210.3 million. This was an increase of 9 percent compared to the prior year. Income from Continuing Operations of $16 million increased 86 percent over the prior year while Diluted Earnings per Share (EPS) from Continuing Operations of $1.52 increased 81 percent compared to the prior year.
