Hybrid Technologies, Inc., (HYBR.OB), the Las Vegas-based developer and marketer of all electric vehicles and conversions, now offers a knockout of a sports car. For anyone who thought electric cars have to look and perform in a way that only a diehard environmentalist would love, the LiVinizio is a revelation. It looks like a genuine sports car because it is a genuine sportscar, with specifications to back up the claim:

> 0-60 in 4.0 seconds
> Top speed of 160 mph
> 160 miles on a single charge

The LiVinizio is also the base model being used by Hybrid to compete for the X-Prize, the $10 million competition to build and bring to market a 100+ MPGe (miles per gallon energy equivalent) vehicle that meets price, size, safety, and performance standards, and which people will want to buy.

Hybrid’s impressive lineup of LiV™ all-electric vehicles and conversions are based on the latest lithium-ion battery technologies, which offer several advantages over the much-talked-about fuel-cell approach. Fuel cells consume 4 times as much electricity per mile as similarly sized battery-powered vehicles. The driving range of battery-powered vehicles is twice that of fuel-celled vehicles of the same weight. Fuel-celled vehicles are considerably more complex to refuel and maintain than simple plug-in battery vehicles, and there are still safety and environmental concerns associated with hydrogen-powered fuel cells.

Hybrid is working closely with Superlattice Power (SLAT.OB), developer of a high-capacity lithium ion polymer battery, to extend the range of all-electric cars to 200 miles. Superlattice is also working with Hybrid on the X-Prize.

In May, 2008, Hybrid Technologies opened a fully-owned subsidiary in India to create greater in-house capabilities for research, and to tap into the vast knowledge pool of mechanical engineers in India.
