Chinese banks expand lending

President Hu Jintao of China said that sustaining rapid growth was one of the country’s top priorities.
“We must maintain steady, relatively fast development and control
excessive price rises as the priority tasks of macro-adjustment.”
China’s central bank will now let banks increase lending by 5%.
