Galaxy Nutritional Foods Inc., started in 1980, is a developer and marketer of plant-based cheese alternatives, organic dairy and other organic and natural food products to grocery and natural foods retailers, mass merchandisers and foodservice accounts. Galaxy’s products are geared towards the vegetarian and vegan, although they appeal to the general health advocate as well, and are sold worldwide. Its US brands are Galaxy Veggieâ, Riceâ, Veganâ, and Vegan and Wholesome Valley Organicâ.

Orlando-based Galaxy Foods, under pressure from cost increases in critical commodities, selectively raised prices, pursued cost savings in other areas, and emphasized non-casein products (casein is a higher cost ingredient) to achieve a fiscal year 2008 EBITDA of $2,195,659 or 8.7% net of sales. This is down from last year’s 10.9% net of sales.

Galaxy closed at $.17 today, even from its close yesterday, but near its 52-week low of $.13. The 52-week high for Galaxy is $.55.
