Foreign-trained MBAs making impact on Israel business scene

Israelis business used to be characterized by brilliant technologies looking for a problem to solve. No longer. With MBA programs in Israel growing and more and more Israelis seeking training abroad, Israel management is seeing a tremendous upgrade in non-army qualifications, experience, and training. Kellogg School of Management has been running a successful EMBA program in Israel for years (see here). Now, we’re seeing more and more Israelis go abroad for their studies.

Today’s Globes has an article about this phenomenon. The US-Israel Educational Foundation (USIEF) (the Fulbright Program) reports that 110 Israeli students will begin MBA studies in the US in the upcoming academic year. Typically, Israel sent 60-70 to foreign MBA programs. This is the 3rd year in a row where over 100 Israeli students will study business abroad.

Interestingly, over 20 of these students will be attending Wharton. Renonwed for its finance-focused MBA, Wharton will be grooming the next generation of financial wizards as structural changes continue to propel Israeli money-management ahead. According to Globes, “The University of Chicago accepted 14 Israeli students for its MBA program, the second largest number. In third place is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s MBA program, which accepted 10 Israelis.”

The same Globes article claims that the average GMAT score in Israel is 700. The Princeton Review’s Israeli director, Dov Shalit noted, “Only 7% of students taking the GMAT score 700 points. In Israel, 15-25% of those taking the test score 700.”

With Israeli financial, tech, and defense businesses like Bank Leumi, Elbit Systems (ESLT) and NICE (NICE) becoming more and more global businesses, Israel human capital is preparing for the next stage of management by hiring and training top MBAs.
